Has it been clarified that that WAS the play call? He didn't fumble the ball, he never had it and it didn't look like he was expecting it ...

Good point you bring up.  I don't remember seeing a replay.  If it wasn't the play call BullsFaninTX is going to have a bunch of posts he'll want deleted.

Have we clarified it was a LINEMAN?

The post game article mentions FULLBACK Lawrence Martin fumbling (listed as TE in the USF roster)

He's a converted guard this season...playing fullback (or HBack).

Willie Davis seems like he can get tough yards.

Would he have scored if he did not fumble?

Would he have scored if he did not fumble?

Very possibly. He had some steam and was maybe a foot from the plane.

Well, then I am inclined to think it was a good call.  From my vantage point I fell for the fake.

Did anybody noticed that on that play the defender had a hold of Shaw around the 3-4 yd line?

You do realize that was likely because the blocking scheme was set up for the "fullback"?  Willie Davis should have been the RB with the ball in his hands.

Really, this game was begging for Bench instead of White.  But that is a different discussion.

You're exactly right, gotta go with the hot hand and Bench's performance against Houston was too good to ignore ...

Can he be charged with a fumble if he never had possession? I haven't gone back to check ESPN3 but it sure looked like on the replay at the the stadium, he wasn't expecting the ball to actually be given to him.

Per Joey Knight tweet: "@TBTimes_Bulls: Taggart said he didn't regret the goal-line handoff to Martin instead of a TB. "It's a play that we put in and we run on the goal line."

Jeff Odom has more: "@ByJeffOdom: Taggart said the hand off call to Lawrence Martin, which led to a fumble at the 1, was a designed play they ran in practice." "@ByJeffOdom: Taggart: "It was a play that we put in and that we run ... Probably see it a lot more this year, we just haven't been on the goal line." "@ByJeffOdom: More on that play, Taggart said no regrets ... "That's the play I wanted and if he holds on to the ball, he's in the end zone."
