This is a list of traditions. Some are more iconic than others, but they are unique things associated with that school, done every season.

College traditions aren't all related to sports.

No, but this was posted on the main athletics board so.....

Yes, you're right, I'm a joke. If we go along with this, I can definitely see us on that bleacher report list in the future.

"______ was started back in 2013 when student government posted on facebook asking for ideas for a tradition. They picked 4 ideas and put them on a blackboard ballot. There was not an overwhelming support for any of the ideas, but they decided to go with ______. Student government tried to push the idea for almost 2 years, but with lack of student support ______ was eventually abandoned."

You give Bleacher Report too much credit. But if something does become tradition eventually through this method and Bleacher Report wrote about it, most likely the only way they would know how it started would be through this thread. And your characterization of anything chosen seems wrong. The student government is looking for ideas from the students, not pushing them, more like making the students aware and organizing so that everyone that wants to will be on the same page.  How do you think would be the best way to start a new tradition at USF? BTW, a tradition at the Sarasota campus was to put the parking decal on upside down so it became FSU upside down. At least when I went in the 80s.

This is not the first time though. Last year they did a similar thing in which we voted on 4 things or none. The only thing almost worth voting for was to have a live bull mascot, but it hardly got any support.

The best way to start a tradition is it just happens.

For instance, Urban Meyer started a new tradition at Ohio State last year.

I might be in the minority here, but I think if Urban Meyer became our head coach, won us a couple national titles, and had a perfect season or two, anything he came up with would become a tradition the minute he introduced it.

Throw a huge party on campus. With Alcohol. 21+ obviously. On the top of a parking garage. This is something I wanna do. Anyone know what the ramifications would be?

These kinds of open requests are good for reinforcing traditions, but not creating them out of thin air.

For example: we have an existing rivalry with C. Florida, so an open request like this is good for getting ideas on commissioning an actual trophy for the game.

versus making up a random rivalry game out of thin air.

Another example: a lot of bulls fans throw around the term "stampede". Why not make this official? Print it on USF gear (UnderArmor might like that idea), put it on the field, in the freshmen orientation books, etc

Take something we are already doing and give it administrative support. That's where this will be the most effective.

Meh, I'm fine with student goverment trying to be proactive about traditions. This tactic doesn't embarass me one bit.

-put awnings over motorcycle parking areas

-stock the lakes on campus so students can fish in them

I think these are pretty good ideas too

Stock the lakes?  What are students going to fish for their dinner?

Fishing is a hobby. I see people attempting it all the time. I've caught 1 bass on campus that was about 2lbs. It's the only bite I've ever had there. Would be pretty amazing if they stocked the lakes and maintained them.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
