It's not arrogance if you really ARE that good. It's confidence. They always wanted complete control of the BE. Now they want bigger shares of the new conference than anyone else they add. These seven destroyed the BE, and they will tear apart the new conference as well. This is nothing new. They always HAD complete control of the BE They CREATED the BE, and only created the football league to grab some of the money afforded by the bigger pie. plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

Instead, they drove out good football programs over the years.

It's really the best move for them, they stay as a group and chances are very good they can add a couple more quality basketball schools and remain as a premier basketball conference with multiple NCAA berths every year. They also can avoid the constant re-alignment that has been happening in recent years which is all because of football TV deals.

These teams just maximized their finances by going solo, nothing wrong with that.

Since 2004 the Big East football schools have made it to the Sweet 16 20 times and since 1996 they have been in the Final Four 7 times. The Catholic 7 have been there 8 and 2 times respectively. This! Their glory days have passed them by. I'd classify them as solid still but not great.
