Not giving the extensions could effect recruiting in both sports, but football more-so than basketball

terrible decision on holtz

I agree. Hard to believe you give a raise to someone who underachieves.

Well deserved on both counts.

A year ago all the people saying Heath deserves his extension in this thread were demanding he be fired. Sports fans are a fickle bunch.

After a 1 - 6 year and his wife saying "Who would have him", a raise (although that part was minimal) and an extension seem to be mis-timed at best.

I like the Heath move though. I've said for years that the basketball coaching carousel needed to stop and let one guy get entrenched in the job. I don't know if BB reaches the tournament again this year, but Heath proved he can coach.

If Holtz doesn't work out, Schiano is close by.

If he earns the bonuses, I have no problem with it

terrible.

lock in a guy that is closer to being fired than he is to being hired away.

not a smart move. it would cost a fortune to get rid of him now.

anybody remember 5-7 last year?

what if we get the same results this year with a senior laden team?

A million dollar buyout is not really that big of a deal to major college football programs.

Big gamble here. If he wins the BE in dominating fashion then it was worth it.

Otherwise we should be loking for a new coahc anyway and at that kind of money there would be alot avaiable.

I like the Heath raise. Did his assitant pool also get an increase ?

even if he wins the BE it would not be worth it. like you said a million dollar buyout is nothing to a big program.

we are essentially locking him into a long term deal that USF could not afford to buyout and all we get in return is a million dollar buyout that any top 40 program would pay in an instant.

I agree we pay a handsome sum and we could get a lot of quality guys. no need to break the bank to lock up a guy that went 5-7.

I am all about incentive based pay. You want a big pay check, then earn it through results.
