High quality players with a desire to play at home are always a great thing. Nice pick up, with time there will be more. As fans we have to love this. Support our team and more will come. Building a winner starts at home with good kids that can see the vision we all have for our university. GO BULLS!

At long last, Love: Countryside DE picks Bulls

USF football has picked up a local commitment and a rare coup from across Tampa Bay -- Countryside defensive end Mike Love, among the area's top recruits in the Times rankings, committed to USF during an official campus visit Sunday, the Times' Bob Putnam writes.

We'll have more on his commitment later today, but it's another local pickup for Willie Taggart's staff, and it's still a novelty to read that USF was always a "dream school" for a recruit.

Countryside defensive end Mike Love committed to USF during his official visit this weekend, the Cougars football program announced via Twitter.

Love, the Times' 2011 Pinellas County defensive player of the year, always had the Bulls at the top of his list but did not get a lot of interest from them until the past month.

Countryside coach Jared Davis said Love still needs a qualifying GPA and test score but is close.

Davis said he reached out to USF assistant Raymond Woodie to see if the school was interested in Love.

"Woodie used to recruit to this area for Western Kentucky, so I talked to him about Love when he visited the school earlier this month," Davis said. "That's when we really started to get the ball rolling."

Davis said USF gave Love serious consideration once defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan was able to watch film of Love.

This past season, Love had 29 tackles and eight sacks and was a first-team all-county selection. Love, ranked 12th in the bay area in the HomeTeam 100, had dozens of offers and chose the Bulls over Division-I programs like Nebraska, UCF, Mississippi State and Cincinnati.
