Even if they offered to double the exit fee payment to $10mm we shouldn't let WVU leave in 2012. Even though they will leave for another conference we need them along with Pitt & Syracuse for as long as possible (27 months per bylaws) to help with our AQ BCS numbers come crunch time.

T. Boone Pickens will make sure WVU is playing in the B12 next season. Money talks and everything has it's price.

If we can't leverage the B12 voting for BE AQ status (not sure how that works anyhow), I say screw 'em. $40M for 2012, $20M for 2013 or $5M (per contract and by-laws) for 2014. The B12 has to field 10 teams next year or their TV contract is null and void - correct?

pardon my french, but WVU, Cuse and Pitt can go get effed. if they want out they need to pony up some serious cash, and i like the idea of supporting Big East AQ status as a requirement for early exit regardless of the exit fee.

pay up, and leave the conference in the same shape AQ-wise as u left it. don't s*** our bed then leave without cleaning up your mess and expect us to sleep in it.

if all 3 pay $20M and go back to their respective conferences lobbying for a revamped Big East to retain its AQ status for the next evaluation period we'll be absolutely fine.

in fact, USF will be in BETTER position to win the conference as the new teams are better match-ups for us on the field (not too eager to play the Navy/AFA triple option every year but better than getting blown out by Spittsburg) than the northern teams and adding a recruiting footprint in talent-rich Texas is better than the garbage we lose from NY, Penn and WV.

speaking of which, WVU really screwed itself because they lose their recruiting pipeline in Florida and are going to have an even harder time trying to steal Texas recruits from UT, TTU, TCU, Baylor, OU and OkState than they did competing for recruits against UF, FSU and Miami. yes, Texas is a bigger state, but there are at least 5 perennial powers with an iron grip on Texas recruiting as compared to Florida which has only the Big 3, two of which are floundering.

funny that WVU is leaving a conference with a Florida footprint at a time when Miami is about to lose some schollies. stupid mofos. LOLOLOL.

Rumor is that WVU is prepared to pay $20mil to get out early.

more than i would have charged them

TAKE THE MONEY NOW AND LET THEM LEAVE MONDAY

they will get creamed in new conference for years to come

ask miami and bc how leaving worked out for them

As soon as you have the teams in place to secure aq status and to allow all the BE teams to fill their schedules then I would make them pay as much as you can get out of them.

Good call on both accounts.

That's a chunk of cash. Generally speaking, all the exit fee dollars should be going to the remaining schools, not the incoming schools. Therefore, that would be 4MM per school. We should also make that contingent on not leaving the conference for a certain period of time, in addition to exit fees. We shouldn't let a school take those exit fees now, just to use them to pay their own exit fee next year.

$4M per?

WVU, Pitt, and Cuse are (were) all-sports members. I'd assume the bball schools will grab their pound of flesh out of the exit fees...

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
