Maybe we can use him in BB as well.  ;)

Alex Mut

Small Forward

Charlotte

Ht:  6'3"

Wt: 180

Class: 2011

Notes:  To sum Alex up in one word it would have to be "effort".  He has a solid all-around skill set at an early stage with his strongest attribute being his ability to get to the lane.  But one thing is certain, he will not quit on you and he'll most likely be in most scrums for the loose balls or rebounds.  He posesses good size and athleticism as well and is currently a standout wide receiver for the varsity football team as a sophomore.  Look for this "gym rat" to continue to improve in Charlotte's system and be a recognizable name come his senior year in the area hoops scene.

Good to see Holtz going after these smart kids who really want to be here.

Sounds like a decent pick up. Really cool to here a commit say he's always wanted to play here. Hopefully we hear that more often!

I live in Punta Gorda and have watched him play for two years. He runs great routes and catches the ball with his hands; not the body. He competes on every play, plays a smart game and is a great pick-up. His stats may drop next year as the '09 QB graduates this spring. His dad is one of the assistant coaches for CHS.

His dad used to be the head coach of Port Charlotte High (go Pirates) before heading to the dark side (with better athletes).

Some nice posts about him on Fla Varsity.

"Here's a shot SK snapped last summer up in GA of Alex focusing on the one hand TD. The ref just out of the picture, watched Mut stretch out for what looked to be an overthrown ball and as he signaled the TD kept repeating "Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?"

Haha very true. I remember the first time I noticed this phenomenon: In 2002, when Eric Crouch's NFL prospects were still unknown, some ESPN analyst said, "Eric Crouch doesn't have the tools to be a quarterback in the NFL, but if he moves to receiver I could see him being a very solid Ed McCaffrey-type player for some team." Out of all the receivers in the NFL, he has to pick the one white receiver anyone at that point knew anything about.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”
