Alex came in 3rd in the long jump in his region, where T-Rex won the event. Now they'll face off again the the state finals.

Alex will also compete at state in the 4 x 400 meter relay which his regional team won.

It certainly would be great if we could land his teammate Michael Bellamy who won both the 100m and 200m events.

It would be great but Bellamy is already gone.  But we've got a lot of other good ones this year.  Many can thank Leavitt and crew because they planted some very nice seeds early with the 2012 class, that might come to fruition for USF.  Skip will close them and it should still be a very good recruiting class, albeit I still believe before it's all said and done that 2009 will be remembered as an epic class, one worthy of even a greater ranking then the national 24th ranking we got.

Personally when Jacquez Jenkins, Juju Forte, Vic Marc, Demi Thompson, Luke Sager, Sterling Griffin, and Isaac Virgin finish up at USF people will wonder why so many were rated ahead of these guys coming out of HS.

Charlotte county should get 'locked down' for USF as it is far and away the best option for kids who want their families to see them play.

Charlotte WR Mut shines in 7-on-7

Travis Bell    3 hrs ago

Tampa, Fla. -- Alex Mut knows firsthand how important 7-on-7 summer football can be.

After helping Charlotte High finish second in USF's Sling 'N Shoot tournament in 2009, Mut was offered - and later accepted - a scholarship from the Bulls.

"It helps because if you have a great game or great couple of games here then the coach is looking at you like, 'wow, look at this kid. Look what he's doing,'" Mut said.

The 6'3" receiver helped the Tarpons reach the 4A region finals before falling to Armwood. These summer tournaments help the team stay fresh and keep the players in front of college coaches.

"They're loads of fun," Mut said. "I love coming out here competing. Our whole team does."

"It's great exposure for the kids," Charlotte High coach Binky Waldrop said. "It doesn't take long for word to get out when a kid looks great."

Alex Mut is Exhibit A.

Kids a four star.  It's actually great nobody hardly knows.  4-star numbers every week but I'm sure some know-it-all who actually doesn't is gonna tell us something about how he does it in high school and how that doesn't really matter. :'(
