Guest HowieP1
USF lands 2nd prize recruit

By GREG AUMAN, Times Staff Writer

Published October 8, 2004

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brandon guard Zaronn Cann isn't the only talented recruit who said he will play for South Florida next season. The Bulls have picked up another promising backcourt commitment from 6-foot-2 guard Chris Howard, who led Fort Washington (Md.) Friendly High to state championships in 2002 and 2003.

Howard, who is playing at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Fitchburg, Mass., this season, committed to USF during an official campus visit last weekend. He also was being recruited by Massachusetts, Boston College and Illinois.

"He sees the whole floor, and he's a great passer," said Notre Dame Prep coach Bill Barton, who guides one of the nation's most reputable prep academies.

Howard, who can play either guard position, averaged 17.9 points for Friendly as a senior in leading his team to its second straight state championship and 31-6 mark. The versatile guard had eight triple doubles his senior year for a team that finished the season ranked No. 1 in the D.C. area by the Washington Post.

It looks like Brett McMurphy has some competition when it comes to SUBSTANTIVE stories.

Today, six days after that article was written, Brett only had this to say about Howard:

Chris Howard, a 6-foot-2 guard at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Fitchburg, Mass., verbally committed to the men's basketball team.

By the way, Chris Howard attended the 2004 ADIDAS SUPERSTAR ALL-AMERICAN CAMP in July 2004, and did well.

From Hoopscooponline:

Chris Howard from Middleburg (Notre Dame) VA is an unheralded point guard with strength, athleticism, court savvy, and the ability to run a team

The Odonnel center is the same building as the Sun Dome. UF has done a lot of additions to theirs, but it's essentially the same design including the new roof.

Yes markey, originally they were basicly the same building but they have redone the roof so it will work now.  With enough money you put a retracable roof on both of these buildings.  As the Sun Dome sits you can not put a scoreboard in the middle.  Got a couple million then you can so I will stand by my comment that you will never see a center scoreboard.  I just wish we could up date the corner ones.

A couple years ago, there was talk of buying a used center-hung board from Penn State I believe.  I thought at the time it was discussed that the new roof would be able to support it.

Regardless, I think it would be fine if we had new scoreboards with video in only 2 corners (basically only 2 of the 4 sides of a center board - assume that is 1/2 the cost).  The 25 year old boards we have now are ruining my eyesight.

uf's  court seems so much brighter

it is  probably the lighting

building and scoreboard should be updated

we don't need a new building until we start competing and winning

79 Bull.....yes, we were going to buy a used board from Penn State (or Pitt, don't remember).

What you can expect regarding upgrades at the Sun Dome in the coming years:

- corner sky boxes

- new corner score boards

- new seats

I don't think we'll go we'll ever go with a center board.
