Not sure if this has been posted yet. Got this from todays SP Times.

6-2 G Chris Howard from Notre Dame Prep School in Fitchburg, Mass. He led Fort Washington H.S. to state titles in '02 & '03. He chose us over UMass, BC, and Illinois.

They also mention that we are a contender for 6-9 260-pounder Denard Abraham of South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. He was apparently rated the #24 center prospect by Rivals in '03.

The story isn't on sptimes.com yet so there's no link.

USF lands 2nd prize recruit

By GREG AUMAN, Times Staff Writer

Published October 8, 2004

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brandon guard Zaronn Cann isn't the only talented recruit who said he will play for South Florida next season. The Bulls have picked up another promising backcourt commitment from 6-foot-2 guard Chris Howard, who led Fort Washington (Md.) Friendly High to state championships in 2002 and 2003.

Howard, who is playing at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Fitchburg, Mass., this season, committed to USF during an official campus visit last weekend. He also was being recruited by Massachusetts, Boston College and Illinois.

"He sees the whole floor, and he's a great passer," said Notre Dame Prep coach Bill Barton, who guides one of the nation's most reputable prep academies.

Howard, who can play either guard position, averaged 17.9 points for Friendly as a senior in leading his team to its second straight state championship and 31-6 mark. The versatile guard had eight triple doubles his senior year for a team that finished the season ranked No. 1 in the D.C. area by the Washington Post.

Oral commitments are nonbinding until an athlete signs a national letter of intent, and the early signing period for basketball opens Nov. 10. The Bulls have a full allotment of five scholarships available as they build a roster for their first season in the Big East in 2005-06.

USF is a strong contender for a third recruit who made an official visit last weekend, 6-foot-9, 260-pound Denard Abraham of South Plains College in Levelland, Texas. Abraham, who graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Middleburg, Va., was ranked as the nation's No. 24 center prospect in 2003 by rivals.com and had committed to Conference USA rival Saint Louis. But he but did not have the necessary requirements for initial eligibility. He enjoyed his trip to USF, according to SPC coach Steve Green.

"I think he liked it a lot," said Green, who said other colleges, including Towson State, are recruiting Abraham, but no other schools have merited an official visit. "Obviously, the lure of going into the Big East is attractive to him."

Chris Howard is a very good pick up for USF. He should be able to contribute right away. He seems to be a very well rounded player.

It would be great if we could land Denard Abraham.

Flashback:

Abraham Taking Visits

By Dave Telep

Date: Mar 20, 2003

Middleburg (VA) Notre Dame Academy center Denard Abraham, a native of Baltimore, will take some official and unofficial visits in the coming weeks.

Abraham Busy With Visits

Denard Abraham, a veteran of the successful Baltimore Select AAU program, is about to start taking some visits. The wide bodied Abraham has an offer from George Mason and will take an unofficial visit to their campus on March 20.

Florida Atlantic has also put forth an offer and he’ll visit there officially the weekend of March 28. St. Louis – another offer – will play host to him on April 11, the first weekend after the closed Final Four period.

Massachusetts is interested and should Abraham boost his current test score to a qualifying level, the Minutemen’s interest would probably go up even higher.

“Everyone likes his size,†Select coach Jeff Bowden said. “He’s 250 pounds and he’s athletic and can shoot and he’s got soft hands.â€Â

“He’s not as heavy on his feet as he looks because of his size. Every one of them say that on a good weight program he can be a beast. He’s never lifted a weight. All the schools are excited about him.â€Â

At least we won't have to fatten him up.  ;D

Towson (minus the "State") is where former DePaul coach Pat Kennedy has ended up...

did they or did they not (they=ncaa) repeal the 5/8 rule?

Detractors? How about win and you'll get our support! Any coach can bring a ballyhooed recruiting class in... at least get us to .500 with it though.

I never once with Seth felt we didn't have a chance to win a big game (if the players brought their best game, we could beat anyone here). Last year with Mac, I felt we lost games before the team even stepped on the court. When that changes, I will be a Mac bandwagon.

I've been the same with Jose for women's hoops. This is the first time in four years where I feel we belong on the court with our competition. Now, will he live up to his billing with the players? I think so and he has my support!

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
