Andre Hall - RB 2004-2005 (NFL FA) back to back 1,000 yd seasons

Jaquain Wiliams - LB 2009-2010 (NFL drafted Giants 6th rd - won SB with JPP)

David Bedford - DE 2008-2010

Craig Marshall - DE 2008-2010

Kion Wilson - LB 2008-2009 (NFL FA)

Claude Davis - DE 2010-2011

Tevin Mims - DE 2012-2013

Jamie "Angry" Byrd - DB 2014-2015

Jhalyn Shuler - LB 2022- Current (Best Defensive player IMO)

There are several others that were solid role players. Clearly there seems to be a theme with successful JUCO players...They need to play defense

If we had a Safety like Jamie Byrd on this current team we'd have 6 or 7 wins right now.

It is 2023 and besides Shuler, the last decent Juco player was from 2015. That is almost a decade ago. I'm not knocking Juco players, but they haven't panned out in a while and many are at a Juco b/c they lacked discipline in the classroom or messed up at a previous destination. I think FCS/D2 overachievers give you the most bang for your buck. Then P5 and then Juco.

Any relation between the lack of Jucos since 2015 and the focus on raising academics? Love JPP but saw an interview with him the other day, and I’ll leave it there.

Or high school players

and recruits in the mold of Bohanon or even Wright; players who have had success at Power 5 teams instead of players who have hardly played.

or players who have been starters and put up respectable numbers at group of five teams.

very few recruits since the portal became a thing that fit that mold.

When it comes to recruiting the portal Memphis and SMU are good examples to take a look at

We should target the best transfers from Ivy League schools 😎

We're not the only school doing that. I read somewhere that Antonio Cromartie reads at a 3rd grade reading level but still had a degree from FSU.

The only flame out so far that I can think of is Lloyd Summerall.

He played about 50% of snaps i believe. Up until he flamed out, he was at least providing depth.

No doubt, but you have to think that having higher academic expectations shrinks the pool of potential players, especially when you are looking for gems in the rough. Not judging just analyzing what may explain the drought.

May go back a little further to the Holtz New Era. Did we have many JUCO's during his tenure? I know Stan lost a JUCO that basically snuffed out almost any hopes to get close to emulating the NCAA run ....

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
