This is nuts to me, we actually did it. This is very elite company and I almost can't believe we made it. 

But make it we did. We put all out efforts into it, at the expense of athletics, and at least this paid off. 

Now, the Board, President, and AD focus on making us an athletics powerhouse. The facilities, the NIL partnership, the Alston award, the investment in talent... it won't pay off right away, and it will take time, but I have a tanglible example today of what USF can do if they just get their **** together. And that's exciting.

By the way, 3 names to thank for today's announcement. 

Judy Genshaft - this was her white whale. This was her singular focus. She gets credit for leading us to this destination. (President Law gets credit for not derailing the train, and I mean that affectionately, but this is the result of President Genshaft's leadership). 

Ralph Wilcox - we talk about shared vision, and common goals, as provost, he carried the water. 

Paul Dosal - former VP for Student Success, he hammered away at the metrics like graduation rate, retention, persistence. (side note, he is now at UCF working on the same thing for them)

There are hundreds, if not thousands more, but in my opinion, those are the big 3 for making this happen. This isn't a shot at current leadership, just the realization that this happened over 20 years, not overnight.

This is incredible!!

A huge testament to decades of work by the USF community - professors, students, researchers, leaders, and yes, definitely President Judy Genshaft. Donors, community business and research partners, city and state leadership supporting our ambitions, the list goes on. It is a HELL of an accomplishment.

We join at the same time as Miami (founded in 1925) and Notre Dame (founded in 1842)? WOW. Not to mention only UF was a member in Florida previously, now Florida has 3 members when many states have none. The value of a degree in Florida (well, at many institutions, anyways) is clearly stellar.

I am also personally very happy that the worth of our degrees is appreciating in leaps and bounds. Both of my alma maters joined the AAU, though we all know that Miami doesn't need the reputational help as much as our young USF.

Of course, in this forum, we all can't help but remember that Nebraska getting admitted to the AAU (and soon after getting kicked out) led to their Big Ten invite. I think we aren't in that conversation just yet, but there is a tiny crack with some daylight trickling in - perhaps Miami gets a B10 invite and the ACC needs to backfill..... one can dream anyway......

Cannot even start to name the number of people who have played giant roles in this, including those throughout the Honors College in addition to those named by Mike Stuben above. What an awesome day.
