Men’s Final Four went as well as it possibly could for USF

small victories but…

USF already has UF/FSU to recruit against, a NC berth/win for either/both FAU/MIA would have only given MBB more competition recruiting.

FAU especially… so many small brand Florida schools have had notable seasons in revenue sports the past several years— UCF’s football run, FGCU’s Sweet 16 run, now FAU’s Final Four— USF can’t help but look like the bottom of the barrel when it comes to NCAA revenue sports in Florida.

thank the Bull gods for Elena Tsineke & the WBB team keeping USF from completely fading to obscurity but men’s revenue sports needs a turnaround ASAP.

a little over a decade ago we were on the precipice of making Florida a 4-team state.

in a matter of only a few years UCF lapped us & left for P5 expansion while FAU just made a Final Four run.

(UConn was going to beat whoever won today, but in the hypothetical…) an FAU National Championship would have been some pretty tough salt to rub in the gaping, hemorrhaging wound that is USF revenue sports.

The Men’s Final Four was horrible for USF; as you mentioned, FAU went to the Final Four which makes USF look even worse (not to mention UCONN that left the AAC is in the Natty game). We are an embarrassment and I honestly don’t see us as a contending for conference expansion in the next 10 years (SDSU which was way below us built a new OCS and are playing for a MBB National championship has passed us). We have sunk so low and have continued to get worse as our conference continues to get worse that we provide ZERO value to any conference, including the AAC. We have no fan draw for ticket sales, no investments interest from business, media doesn’t want to cover us and our own students don’t want to build a stadium. Face it, we are dead in the water and drifting further from land as we speak.

This is why I keep saying we should shut down our athletic programs

I don't see FAU in the final four as a bad thing. For one it gives credibility to the AAC conference as a decent basketball conference. Especially considering that UAB and North Texas both made it to the NIT final, and we still have teams like Memphis, Wichita State , and Temple as well.

Secondly, FAU making it to the final four proves that in the current NCAA basketball landscape, anyone; if they do things right, can be verry successful. Gives me hope for USF, that if we do things right, we can attain similar success.

The men's Final Four was irrelevant for USF and the trajectory of its basketball program which, for the last  half century or so, has been generally not good.   With the new change in coaching we will get better, or maybe worse, or maybe continue to languish in mediocrity.

There, now you have a full circuit of opinions that are as meaningless of the impact of the Final Four on USF's circumstances.

****, must have been having a bad morning, michi. Lots of misinformation there ..... but just to address one, not sure where the SDSU was way below us came from. They've had a good amount more success in football and basketball in their 100+ history of both than we've had in our relatively short history ....

There are a finite number of teams that will ever be advanced to other conferences and there is a finite amount of credibility that the aac can gain. The only way to win the conference credibility game is to get called up to a better conference and we would be best served having no other G5 team ever win another game again.

In 2012 we were in the BEAST while they were in the Mountain West, no one disputes that the BEAST was a better conference. SDSU was poised to join the BEAST in 2013 until we AACed it up,  so even they recognized that it was a move up. We were in the position they were trying to move to, that makes us ahead at that time. The same logic works for trying to compare anyone that was in a Conference below the BEAST while we were in the BEAST, hope that helps.
