Successful is not the same as acceptable. Success would be:

1.) Football team makes a bowl game

2.) On campus stadium breaks ground

3.) Basketball team finishes above .500

4.) WBB makes sweet 16

DM on where I can get that Kylie lipgloss...sold out everywhere!

As a matter of last resort they tend to have vending machines at major airports that are usually fully stocked on the skus that are carried in those machines.

Those leaving the AAC for the Big12 are getting (I think) a 30 million per year revenue boost.  And of course the Big12's tv contract is chump change compared to others....so that's a lot of leagues outspending and out-recruiting the G5.

Beating a P5 team in one bowl game at the end of the season (when everyone is seeing players go to the portal or declaring for the draft) doesn't erase getting beat off the field the other 364 days of the year.

So serious question here. What good has all that extra money done for Rutgers in the Big 10 or West Virginia in the Big 12 (or dozens of other also rans)?

I mean they can overpay for coaches but what other benefits come from all that cash?

Less need to raise funds from from raising student fees and less reasons to subsidize the program from general funds.

But we've proven that we can also be mediocre (I'm being generous based on the last 3 years) on a smaller budget than the P5 teams.

Yes people can fail on any budget but it’s easier to swallow with a more balanced budget then having to continually ask for more money to fail with. Greater outside money provides stability and the power to last despite failure than needing regular review of the “investment” the students and university are making into the athletics program. Also there is a value to being lumped in with B10 brand names as opposed to residing in the discount bin of the dollar store.

Like Rutgers? Maryland? Illinois?  They don't move the needle much for the general fan.

As institutions most of them are pretty reputable and worth associating with. Outside of that to the casual fan they are certainly of greater value than whoever is now in this conference that most people have never even heard of in passing. We see value in being aau and that association, the B10 has a fairly nice overlap to that association.

Bigger conference doesn't mean more financial stability if you aren't ready for it

The report found that Rutgers Athletics currently faces approximately $265 million in outstanding debt, with nearly half being associated with operating costs from the Big Ten Conference alone, according to the article.

In an effort to cover these expenses, Rutgers itself has loaned the athletics program $84 million over the past six years from its internal bank

Yes anyone can be irresponsible with any budget, New Jersey isn’t for it’s fiscal responsibility and is more known for extenuating circumstances that lead to increased spend. I will concede that it is probably far more likely that we would get into an arms race in keeping up with the Joneses that will actually lead to more spending than to a balanced budget. I still think it’s easier to swallow when that shortcoming has you living in a much nicer neighborhood and you could in theory ratchet things back and still make ends meet as $50 million spreads a lot further than 10 percent of that.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
