USF is San Fran and  Sioux Falls, not singular identity.  A series of letters is not a name.  People don't call me BRM.  They call me Brad and I deal with it.  

If we can't handle what we are, the University of South Florida, I'd suggest changing the name of the univerisity.

SOUTH FLORIDA!!! Now it does depend on how you look at it. Are you thinking nationally or regionally? If you want a national brand that appeals to people not from Florida, South Florida is the only name you want to use. It tells the person the state and region the school is in. USF is name is VERY bush league name, sorry guys. Up here in Michigan (or even in Utah, Texas or Ohio where I have family), when I tell people (family and strangers) I went to South Florida, the response is “Nice, I bet it was amazing going to school in Florida!!”; when I would say I went to USF, the response was “where’s that?” or “oh, you guys just went undefeated a couple years ago.” . Also, people here in Michigan, if you went to a directional school, you don’t usually say WMU, CMU or EMU, you say Western, Central or Eastern; even Michigan State fans go by “State” way more than MSU. The only schools that use initials are USC, UCLA or UNLV, other than that, it just sounds like a 2nd rate community college type of school (IUPUI, FGCU, etc.).
