GAME DAY vs. SMU Mustangs

 

USF will look to end a 10-game AAC losing skid as they play just their second home game in 63 days when USF returns to Raymond James Stadium to face SMU under new leadership as special teams coordinator Daniel Da Prato assumes acting head coach responsibilities in the wake of the dismissal of third-year head coach Jeff Scott. Co-Defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Ernie Sims will assume all defensive coordinator responsibilities as defensive coordinator/ safeties coach Bob Shoop was also dismissed following the Bulls 54-28 loss at Temple in which USF gave up 621 yards. Da Prato is in his third season at USF and was a former quarterback at Louisiana Monroe (2002-03). Sims is also in his third season at USF. The former All-American linebacker at Florida State (2004) joined Da Prato in serving as co-defensive coordinators in the Bulls final game of the 2021 season vs. UCF, following the dismissal of then defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer. The Bulls held UCF to 12 first downs and 285 yards in a close, 17-13, loss.

SALUTE TO SERVICE: The annual Salute to Service game will feature the Bulls wearing special Stars & Stripes uniforms. Major General David S. Doyle, Chief of Staff, United States Central Command, out of MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa will perform the coin flip. A paracommando parachute jump will occur pregame and numerous USF ROTC students will march in uniform in the pregame band show. A large US flag will be unveiled on the field for the national anthem and several military personnel will take their oath in a swearing in ceremony conducted by Doyle.

HALL OF FAME: The three newest members of the USF Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted Thursday night in Tampa and recognized on the field during the first quarter of Saturday’s game. Standout volleyball player Erica Berggren will be joined by two seminal names in USF football history in Paul Griffin (USF AD, 1986-2002), who was integral in the start of the football program and quarterback Quinton Flowers (20014-17) who set 42 program records while leading the Bulls to 11-2 (2016) and 10-2 (2017) seasons, 30 wins as starting QB, and 20 straight weeks ranked in the Top 25.
