During the game, we all kept saying does it look as bad on the broadcast as what we are seeing from the stands. There were a couple calls and no calls that were legit that we couldn't tell (Grier did do a 2nd push out of bounds that got the penalty and Battie was not body slammed by the 415lb lineman). But for the rest, ooo-doggie, here is the breakdown after watching the game last night:

1st Qtr:

Battie was clearly on the ground from a KO return and Gator speared him (late hit, 15yds not called)

Bohannon was 2 yds out of bounds and Gator had a late hit on him (similar to what Grier was called on) (late hit, 15yds not called)

2nd Qtr:

Play that resulted in the 4th and a inch was spotted by the H ref on sideline who was still 8 yards away when our player was stopped. He had no clue to bring it back just before the 35yd line other than to force 4th down. Next play was brilliant with the reverse pitch where Battie was chased down...assume Horn would have not got caught if he was not hurt. We ended up settling for a FG.

Two pass plays to back of endzone from each direction where it looked like a lot of grabbing resulted in no calls from the back judge sitting under the goal posts. (SEC announcers thought the second one should have been called where Weaver was starting to get tackled before the ball got there) (FG only, -4pts)

Next UF possession, two 4th downs are saved by phantom penalties. First the hand checking pass interference where SEC announcers said if you let them get physical with the receivers of USF on two non-calls in the endzone, why are you calling it here.

And then one of the worse calls of the game where a big lineman was way too far down the field from where his running back was tries to pancake our corner after the play and our guy tries to save himself and throw him to the side. If anything, call big 77 for illegal man downfield or a late hit. He was the aggressor running into our guy. (that would have been a difference of 4pts if they had to kick the field goal (add that to our settling for a FG in previous possession and that 8pt difference wins us the game).

We found out how bad these refs were when they called the penalty on the Kickoff first on Gators, then on us and then back on Gators.

4th Qtr:

Pass interference called on us for pick play. SEC announcers did not believe it was a pick play. Refs after the pick totally ignored our receiver getting manhandled on the sideline. UF guy did not look back or make any play on ball, just our receivers head that he swatted with his arm. Should have been offsetting interference and play goes over.

Bohannon run over the middle collides with ref. Knowing they don't have to get out of the way, most of them side shuffle at least.

There was a facemask on Bohannon that may not have looked so bad as he had the clear eyeshield going but the sideline staff for USF all saw it.

Etiene got the last score of the game and immediately spiked the ball in the endzone as he was getting up right in front of the ref. You can't spike the ball in college football after a score. That should have been a 15 yd unsportsmanlike penalty on the kickoff. They would have had kick from their 20 and we would have likely started that last drive from close to midfield. You can say that all the other penalties are some type of judgement but this one is clear as day. The ref is always looking for what the scorer does and he saw him spike it. Watch the replay, the ball bounces 15 ft in the air. If there is any formal complaint sent in to NCAA/SEC, that is the one call they should be reviewing and assessing a low review score to that team of refs.

Jeff Scott reportedly said he was going to stay quiet about the SEC officiating as we likely could not afford the SEC fines.......what a joke, I hope the SEC reviews these game and grades the refs because this was one of the worse called (one-sided )games I have seen. After the game, the po po put them all in prison vans real quick below our gate and escorted them out. Everyone was yelling cheaters as they were loading.

He approached the line but didn't cross it.

Real talk though, what normally keeps this kind of behavior in check?

From our view in the end zone (not sure what the cameras on TV showed), the interference call should have been on the UF wide receiver. He was literally pulling on our DB's jersey for a good three to five yards while the ball was in the air. The call should have gone the other way. That call killed us... only to be followed up by the illegal man down field call that was missed that turned into a BS personal foul call when that fat f*** from UF fell. Such BS.

I watch a lot of SEC football. The calls against USF this game were very uncharacteristic of SEC refs.

The refs were very deliberate in trying to screw us.

What pisses me off about the BS personal foul they called against Hill was that the official looking directly at the two of them didn't throw a flag, but the official who only saw it out of his peripheral threw the flag. They could have gotten together and the official watching them could have said "Nah man, the lineman engaged him and he shed him, there was no penalty" but actively chose not to.

The pass interference we got called for after they got two freebies in the end zone on our previous possession was nothing but hand checking and both players were doing it.

The OPI they called on us, I can at least see WHY they called it, but it was weak and it should have been, at worst, offsetting penalties. Even the broadcast crew noted that you can't faceguard in college and the defender made ZERO attempt to look for the ball.

The officiating in this game was awful enough in the first half that I think somebody pulled them to the side at halftime and said "Look guys, you're being too obvious" because it wasn't even close to as blatant in the second half.

Great breakdown. Two questions: you talked about lineman down field, but I think that was a running play. If so, lineman have no restrictions. I also don't think the SEC can fine our coach for ref comments. AAC can, but assume they wouldn't.

On the bright side, I'm sure we got all the bad calls against us out of our system for the rest of year and we won't have to worry about the refs ever again.

It's interesting how the insulated good ol boy culture ignorantly protects itself.  When I was pointing this out at half time, the Gator fans looked baffled in their Steve Spurrier visors and would change the subject.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

“This is not a broken football program by any means. It just needs to be united, to get everybody on the same page, share that same vision, and really to have that standard - best is the standard.”
