Kind of like Notre Dame, I can’t stand them for their “better than thou” attitude toward independence, but at the same time I really respect that they don’t buckle to societal pressure and stay with their tradition. Yeah. In an unrelated note we have heard that they want to make a play into the south and there is an AAU school with a large TV market there. On the eve of the Pac 12 demolition, the Big 10 required an application fee from Oregon (and likely Washington), while the Big 12 waived application fees for Colorado, ASU, and Utah. Texas, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Colorado received financial assistance from their new conference media partners to assist in the transition to a new conference. This financial aid to transition schools from one conference to another, funded by media companies, demonstrates how closely conferences work with their media partners to secure new members. In summary, the Big 12 provided the public with a glimpse into the content of secretive telecast contracts when they threatened ESPN with litigation over tampering with their members. New member agreements disclosed by universities since that time indicate how tampering could take place: 1) waivers of application fees, 2) financial assistance from media companies to help universities transition to new conferences, and 3) conferences making unsolicited offers to universities to defect from their current homes. Hmm The thing is we remain in the AAC despite all of our great attributes. Now of course, our AAU attainment is very recent (and frankly our entry into Division 1 CFB is new in comparison to our peers). Still, there hasn't been much sign of interest from the current P4 conferences. In fact, we have been passed over in expansion more than once. Pubicly. What does that do to your worth? The consolidation that is currently going on, puts us in direct competition with more valuable, on-brand properties. However, the ACC teams may be stuck and fail to get out of their contract. What happens then? We must not stand pat.

Hopefully that helps get us back to the big boy table. UConn, Temple, Washington State, & Oregon State.

USF_Bullsharks Posted April 25 Group: Member Topic Count: 11 Content Count: 879 Reputation: 480 Days Won: 1 Joined: 02/24/2021 Share Posted April 25 FWIW - SDSU's athletics revenue jumped nearly 64% after opening their OCS. From ~$66MM in 21/22 to $104MM in 22/23. This also coincides with their NCAAB tourney run, so that helped tremendously. USF's athletics revenue for '23 was almost $71MM. With the return of the football/basketball programs to relevance, we can expect this revenue to increase a bit (hopefully more than a bit) over the next couple years (*crosses fingers*). Using a similar, but slightly lower multiple of 50% increase in revenue, on a guesstimate of $75MM in revenue for '25/26, is it out of the realm of possibility to say we can realize $110MM in athletics revenue come '27/28? That's with a standardized conference distribution of ~$8MM. This revenue would put us in the same ballpark as schools like Iowa St., Miss. St., Texas Tech, Rutgers, Maryland, GaTech, WVU, OkSt, UCLA, NCSt, Kansas St. and others. Add in a conference distribution of $40MM like those schools have and that would increase our revenue an additional ~$30MM to the $140MM range, in the same ballpark as schools like Mizzou, USCe, Minnesota, Ole Miss. https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances https://www.sportico.com/business/commerce/2023/college-sports-finances-database-intercollegiate-1234646029/ These next few years for USF athletics are so important.

Hmm There has been some poo pooing around here by some poster over AAU status. It will not get us into the B10 but we would show up on lists as potential candidates they could consider. Not bad recognition.

I think it's great that they can pull that kind of influence and revenue without having to be tied to other programs. They also have freedom with their schedule for better or worse when the rankings settle. You sign these long contracts and before you know it some program is dragging you to the abyss.
