GAME DAY vs. SMU

USF hits the road for back-to-back games in time zones west of Tampa having lost their last eight trips away from Tampa, last winning on the road on Oct. 26, 2019 at ECU, 45-20. The Bulls arrived back in Tampa at 8 a.m. Sunday following a 35-27 loss at BYU that ended at 1:30 a.m. eastern time. USF heads west again, this time into the central time zone, looking to snap a string of five straight AAC road losses. The Bulls are 2-0 vs. SMU in Dallas, winning close games in 2016 (35-27) and 2014 (14-13).

AIR TIME: The combined road trips to BYU (2,350 miles) and SMU (1,230) total 7,160 miles and 14 hours of flight time round trip in a one-week span.

AAC OPENERS: USF is 5-3 in AAC openers but has lost its last two (at No. 15 Cincinnati, 28-7, in 2020 and vs. SMU, 48-21, in 2019) after winning five of its first six. This will mark just the third road AAC opener for USF, having also won at Cincinnati, 45-20, in 2016. USF is 15-17 overall in AAC road games.

OFFENSE FINDS RHYTHM AT BYU: Behind freshman quarterback Timmy McClain making his second career start - and first on the road - the USF offense found its rhythm in the final three quarters at BYU. The Bulls scored on five of their last six possessions of the game, including touchdown drives on each of their three second half possessions. USF posted drives of 94, 75, 69, 62 and 54 yards with four drives consuming at least 12 plays and five minutes, including a season-long 94-yard, 19-play touchdown drive in the fourth quarter that cut the BYU lead to eight (35-27). The Bulls posted season highs of 23 first downs and 35:37 possession time while going 10-of-20 on late down conversions (3rd and 4th) on the road and outscoring BYU 27-14 after the first quarter.
