GAME DAY vs UConn USF hits the road for its first conference road game of the season and will look to continue a seven game winning streak over UConn that dates to the 2012 season. The Bulls have won three straight in East Hartford, Conn., by an average of 9 points in a very close series overall. USF is 13-11 in AAC road games, but has lost its last three, with the last win coming at Tulsa (25-24) on Oct. 12 of last season. Head coach Charlie Strong is 16-9 overall in American Conference competition, 7-5 in overall road games, 4-4 in AAC road games. CLOSE SERIES: USF and UConn have met 16 times, tied with Cinncinati for the most played series in program history. It has been a close series, with USF holding an 11-5 lead and an average margin of victory in the series of 8.3 points. In fact, just four games have been decided by more than eight points and seven have been decided by less than a touchdown. UConn’s total margin of victory in its five series wins is just 23 points, an average of 4.6 points per win, four coming in East Hartford and the largest being a 22-15 victory in 2007 in East Hartford vs. a Bulls team ranked No. 11 in the nation. The Bulls’ 37-20 victory in East Hartford in 2017 is the largest margin of victory in the series. NATIONAL DEFENSIVE LEADERS: Following a USF record-setting eight takeaways vs. SC State, the Bulls rank No. 2 nationally with 13 turnovers forced, No. 3 in fumbles recovered (7), No. 6 in turnover margin (1.5) and No. 8 in interceptions (6), while also ranking No. 3 in tackles for loss (9.8 tpg). WILCOX DOING WORK: SR TE Mitch Wilcox moved up to 13th on USF’s all-time receiving charts with 1,154 yards, just 72 shy of WR Jessie Hester (1,226) in 12th. Wilcox also pulled in his 9th career receiving TD vs. SMU and is one shy of entering USF’s top 10 all-time in receiving touchdowns. Hugh Smith and RJ Anderson are tied at 9th with 10.
