This.

Worth noting, we have been able to reel in medium to high 3 star talent on average since I've been following USF recruiting (not many 2 star and even fewer 4-5 stars). Remarkably consistent but not spectacular, despite the coaching changes and renowned recruiting HC's coming in.

The occasional 4 star has come through, but mainly during Leavitt days (Todd Chandler, Terrance Mitchell, Ryne Gidden) and D'vario Montgomrey during, gasp, Holtz. The highest rated was Giddens as a high 4 star. The only 5 stars we have gotten have been through transfers - Barnett, Ford, Scott. JPP was a 4 star JUCO.

In fact, we haven't signed one consensus 4 star since then Mitchell/Chandler, unless Saloman was consensus?

Flowers and Mack were consensus four stars until they committed to USF

If only we were able to look back at things on the internet to see if this was true...

Internet history does exist! I just looked back at Mack and Flowers.

Mack's rating was stable between being uncommitted and signing with us.

Flowers's rating took quite a hit between being uncommitted and committed. The Spring before committing to us, Flowers had a 247 composite of .9388. His final composite score was .889.

Flowers had a huge swing but I can't see when that swing occurred. I've seen us recruit players who have committed elsewhere and had their rating go from the default no rating to high 3-star on the day of commitment.

If I remember correctly, QF's rating started as an ATH and when they switched him to QB, his rating dropped considerably.

Mack actually improved the entire time.

I remember Mack being a four star when committed to UCLA. Now whether that was as a DB or a RB I am not sure.

https://247sports.com/PlayerSport/Marlon-Mack-at-Booker-52069/RecruitRankHistory/

He went up 52 spots in the overall ranking just after committing to USF on 1/24/14.

And if he was a 4 star when he committed to UCLA, UCLA sure didn't know it.

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/152328/marlon-mack

ESPN had him as a 4 star when he committed to us.

Well, since he finished as a 3 star and his ranking only went up the entire time, I can't imagine how he'd have been a 4 star somewhere in there.
