Fortunately, next week we play a team coming off a Navy cut blocking day. I wonder if that will change our fortunes.

Someone on the board produced a stat at one time showing that record for teams coming off a game against Navy was below 500. I don’t know if it will make much difference with Hou but it can’t hurt.

Fail?

But I hope you are right

Perspective is subjective... Only fail is if you dont get that.

If I said at the beginning of the year we would be 7-0 , would it matter how we got there? No. But last night in front of the biggest crowd we have had we laid an egg in the “ come see USF play” community. Gonna be hard to sell that to the casual fan.

Is a casual fan aware that the opponent is not so great and should be demolished? Casual fans, imo, are not engrossed in records or expectations like a fanatic might be. Just seems a little presumptuous to assume what a casual fan finds entertaining. For all we know, a blow out win would have been boring to them and the close win was exciting.

Not that we should shoot for that - a blow out is the way to go for the team and image.

Glad I read the whole thread before responding because this is pretty much my take too. To the casual fan, pretty much oblivious to the opponent, that was a pretty exciting game, with big splash plays being made by the home team. The only ones who would consider the team laying an egg last night are those paying more attention to style points than wins ..

I never felt like we were going to lose but was upset with offensive play calling first half. This offense needs lots of short throws. We have been taking too many deep balls.
