The splash of lime makes the drink. I do the same if I have to drink whiskey with coke

Have not had carbonated sugar water in seven years now and have not had a kidney stone since. But I would take one of those empty bottles for the cave.

totally agree, the lime is everything. Most bartenders seem to forget it though and I always make them go back and get one.

That's funny because I've had bartenders ask if I wanted lime and never understood why someone would do that.  Will have to try it next time.
