Maybe I'm missing something but why do we care how high who we play in the ccg is? Now we truly hold our destiny as far as a NY6 bowl in our hands. Win out and we're in ..... same for the Kanigits.

No, this is true, but I think we'd get a little more respect beating ranked teams in the last two games we play going into a bowl.

Not to mention the higher ranking boost we'll get to start the 2018 season.

Undefeated 2 years in a row, might just be enough to get us to the CFP

Higher rankings for us  and better/higher ranked opponents are integral to building a long term program attractive to fans and recruits. Right or wrong, winning the best of the rest CCG just doesn't have the mass appeal.

I can accept that but, honestly, no matter where we end ranked this year, we will be very fortunate next year to be ranked at all going into next season with the players we'll be losing.

Most likely true.

But, if we are undefeated after the bowls, we could be around #10 in both the final AP & Coaches polls and STILL have the longest winning streak in the nation.

If that is the case, despite losing Flowers and many starting players,  AND we still have CCS as our HC, then I think we would be ranked by at least one of them in the preseason polls.

The AP writers and especially the Coaches will give CCS the benefit of the doubt that he can keep the nation's longest winning streak alive for some time in 2018.

Our  home game with GT will ultimately decide whether we are ranked or not.

If we win out with victories over Houston, UCF, Memphis, and a Peach Bowl win we better be a lot higher than 10th in the final polls. I imagine that gets us around 5-6. I predict we'd be around 9-10 after beating UCF and 7-8 after winning the CCG.

Just remember that we will have played one less game than most other teams in the top 10. Plus, our "overall" SOS will still not be comparable to them. Throw in the P5 bias and I think you will be disappointed in our final ranking in the polls.

Having said that, I HOPE you are correct.

Maybe at 9 but no better in my opinion (unless perhaps we diminate ucf, AAC Champ game, and PB.
