Jones at it again

In today's TBT Jones has an article about events we don't need to bring to Tampa Bay. He notes how we do have the Super Bowl and NHL All Star Game but then lists things he doesn't want to see - the NFL Draft, Body Building Championships and adds this:

Men's Division I college basketball

Hold on, being told we actually do have Division I college basketball in Tampa.

I know we struggle but he didn't really need to take a cheap shot.  Found the article kind of amusing but there was no need for that.

Have we ever had a local "columnist" who rooted for USF? 

If so, it was a long time ago.

I searched for this column and found it online, and his implied reference to USF basketball was, as you say, just another gratuitous cheap shot at USF in a long line of such over the years. It appears that he cannot help himself from doing that, whenever he has the chance.

I would provide the link to it, but I don't want to give him any more clicks.

I didn't find the rest of the article particularly amusing.  

If I was his employer, I would seriously question why he is still on my payroll.

As a USF fan, while I have no love for Bianchi, at least he seems to root for UCF, even though he can sometimes be critical of them. But, he at least he tries to be constructive in his opinions and is more amusing.

I wish that the Tampa paper would hire a columnist who has a more positive approach to USF athletics, who could sometimes be critical, when warranted, and can seriously deal with how to fix any problems, but at the same time give credit when due.

The main problem with Jones and his ilk, is that they just seem to find time to write about USF in a negative way. And, on those rare occasions where they do write something positive, they invariably take at least one cheap shot at us just for good measure.

If USF bankrolled said columnist I sure it could happen.  Otherwise, I don’t see it happening. We live in a media culture where hate and demeaning things sells as click bait.

Yeah he is a jerk. Of course if we are fortunate enough to win the conference and Peach Bowl he will be saying how great the University is.
