Those are some of the things he mentioned which I said were informative. I hope that others here also listened to the interview, because he had a lot to say.

Agreed

No.

They apparently have a special deal with NBC, according to some posts I've read, but I don't know the details. You probably could find out more by doing a google search. Perhaps, someone here knows the specifics.

He said that Boise State asked for a "special deal" upon entering our conference, and that the special deal was already in place in the Mountain West, which was frustrating other members of that conference. Any idea what the details of the special deal are?

Here is the special deal the MWC has with Boise. They asked the same for AAC membership and we said no.

Thanks NE. So, $2.9 Mil annually for Boise, and about 1.1 for all other MW teams.

I still wouldn't mind getting Boise (without the special deal), and BYU, although Aresco said in that Pod Cast something along the lines of  he doesn't see any value in expanding. Wouldn't mind booting Tulane, who has Conference USA written all over them, and maybe Tulsa, and adding two of these three: BYU, Colorado State, or Boise. That would give this P6 thing a little more momentum I think.

Interestingly, the school who is complaining the most about this deal is Las Vegas. They were very upset about the deal after the bowl game last year. They would bolt in a second if offered. I suspect there are other schools in the conference who are happy about the arrangement.

I would love to see all of your points happen, but I can safely say that BYU will never join the AAC. That would be too much of a step down with their rival...Utah. Even if Boise wanted to come (without the special deal), I think the bridge has been burned with our current commissioner (they backed out of a signed deal and refused to pay an exit fee). In terms of dropping Tulsa and Tulane, this will not happen as long as we have presidents concerned with the academic quality of its conference members (and both of these institutions are high up in that area).

UNLV fits the AAC profile. I'd love to bring them and SDSU in the fold. Maybe even Fresno.

Besides, they're in driving distance!

Well, that would allow you more access to USF games which would be nice (which is the same reason I like Uconn in our conference LOL).UNLV, like us, will also be sharing a state of the art nfl stadium soon.

...but as the comish said “we are not looking to expand at this time.” What he is probably waiting on is the likely implosion of the Big12 in six years. At that time there will be about six AAC teams will be leaving to joinn the leftovers of the Big12 or about four Big12 teams will be joining the AAC.

Agree.

What we call it depends on which name gets the bigger TV contract. I'm hoping it'll be called the Big American Division - Academics Sports Society (spell it out, lol)
