The National Champion from 2016-17 almost lost to Troy and STILL won a national title.

That wasn't his point.  Clemson struggled against Troy and won 6 games by a TD or less and won the CFP.  We haven't looked good, but we are 2-0.

I also recall Skippy's last year where the firs two games were similar. Then we proceeded to almost every game by a touchdown or less.

I get what your saying, but again, the point was that the reigning national champs didn't dominate in most of their games.

Did they drop the following week in the polls?

Yes, from #2 to #5.

You're forgetting that Clemson is P5.

As a G5 team, we lost our natty chance when we didn't even cover the spread at SJSU, much less dominate them from start to finish.

If we were in the ACC or SEC, yes, we would still have a shot. Now, our best hope is a booby prize bowl of peaches

I may be mistaken, but I don't think this thread being started has anything to do with that dream of playoffs ....

The last three games were outliers because BJ Daniels was out but you get my point. The games were close losses which actually which started trending in the 2011 season.

3-9 (1-6)

TAking out those last three games where BJ did not play we lost by an average of 6.5 points.

That Ball State loss was a meltdown day on here I remember.

2011, what a season.

Miracle come back against Nevada to pull out the win.

Losing at Ball state.

Losing to FSU. Highlight was Matt Floyd getting hit and fumbling and the Noles getting a scoop and score. Todd Fitch later says he didn't realize BJ got dinged and was out of the game on that play.

Blowing a 23-3 halftime lead to the Cuse.

BJ getting hurt against UConn.

Kicking 2 field goals in the 4th quarter in a blowout loss to Miami.
