"Freshman righty Garrett Milchin will make his second start Tuesday. He has appeared in 16 games primarily out of the bullpen, but has been highly effective. The frosh is 4-1 with a 1.85 ERA and has struck out 17 across 24.1 innings."

His first start against Ole Miss went badly.

From Gator Country Swamp Gas baseball message board:

milchin vs roberts. hopefully milchin rebounds from a very bad outing against ole piss on Sunday.

Well there's something. The gators aren't a team you want to hit the bullpen early with but it's possible he bats could jump on this kid. Roberts is very feast or famine, gives up some hits but gets a lot of strikeouts. How last outing against Stetson was pretty good; I'll take 5 innings of shutout ball against the Gates.

My thoughts as well.

Hopefully, we can put up a few runs against him early, get a good five innings from Roberts and have the bullpen close it out.

Early runs will be key. I'd like to see Roberts go for at least 7, good, bad or ugly.

We'll be lucky to get 5 out of him.  I can't remember if he's ever gone 7 and thats against midweek level opponents, not the Gators.  Also he's not a strikeout type of pitcher.  He's our only pitcher with less Ks (27) than innings pitched (37).  I think I've actually seen 6 of his 7 starts this year.  I'm hoping for 5 innings, but it might be a 3 inning game from DJ.

Well, if that's the case, I question the decision to start him. Its just not the time in the schedule to plan on the bullpen getting through 12 outs when we need to win the final two weekend series. Especially considering how long the UF hitters can make those 12 outs. I think the starter has to go long even if he gets hit.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree. Not to brag, but I just want to point out how proud everyone was when we beat FSU after saying it was more important protect the rotation than win the game.

The UF game is HUGE. Winning it would be awesome for us, but even awesomer for the players. It would send them into the last 2 series an a high note, full of confidence.

**** the rotation, full speed ahead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to beat the Gators, I really do. I just hope we don't gut the bullpen. A non-conference game is still the best time for extended rest late in the year.

Being on a Tuesday helps a ton. All BP arms should be all go on Friday unless someone has to pitch five innings or so.

Yeah that does help but it still seems like a game to let the starter get beat around a little, considering its late in the year, its sandwiched between two  conference series with another one following UCONN, and UCONN and UCF are both in the running for the top seed in the conference. I would rather just give the pen as much of the week to rest as possible.

Treat this like a non conference week night game. We are currently leading the conference and the wins this weekend are much more important. I want the best arms for the weekend.

It's still more important to win this weekend than it is tonight. Nothing has changed.

Not sure I'm seeing what there is to brag about .... Wasn't the rotation protected AND we won the game?

Agreed, it would be great to win tonight, but the UConn series should be the priority.
