FCCOA < FCRMC and I never thought I would type that anyone could be worse than FCRMC.

I can't believe I would ever agree with someone that said this as well

One thing you can say about Mac is that he knew his, and more importantly the program's, limitations when he said never would have taken the job if he knew we heading to the Big East.

Actually, an AD's hands are tied by money.  USF does not have unlimited funds.  So we can hire a high school guy that would be happy to sign for little money, or we can hire someone with more experience and or "cachet" that can negotiate for guaranteed money.

In COA's case, firing him after 90 days without cause would have still paid him millions, would it not?

There are options outside of firing.

There is opportunity to influence.

Maybe I'll just check back in 2-3 years too.

Screw any accountability until then.

If still failing, we'll blame the burial grounds.

So what are your expectations next year from a guy who hasn't been out recruiting in the last year and has 3 or 4 returning scholarship players - 1 or 2 starters in Bo and Reuben?  NIT?

Don't think anybody here is saying he could stand in the middle of Fowler Ave and shoot somebody and we'd be fine with it ...

Not what I said at all.  But, ok.

What if he shot xCOA?

I think the consensus is even non-fans know what a disaster it is and there are realistic expectations for him. Run a clean program, show improvement in various aspects of the program.

xCOA's 2 1/2 years here were punishment enough for him ... although the compensation may help that.

Coaches don't sign contracts that aren't guaranteed; what's the point of putting your career and reputation on the line if you don't get the time to build the program? We won't know until this time next year what his recruiting chops are in this situation. That's why the contract is so lucrative and long, otherwise Gregory wouldn't sign it.

Ive said it before and I'll stand by it. As long as Gregory fixes the "9 to 5" with the program, he will get his time to fix the wins and losses.

When I read the title of this thread, I thought WoW the Board of Trustees made a smart move and dropped the men's basketball program.

Yet it still makes $

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
