Probably a combination of, out of the 7500, sold and given away to USF band, athletic department personnel, etc ...

IIRC, back in the old Big East days, each participating team was allocated X number of tickets (probably 5,000 or so) which they had to sell, and this was how they received the funding for travel, swag, etc.

If they weren't able to sell them all, the school still had to come up with the money to pay the Bowl for them, which meant the school actually lost money on the bowls in many cases. The conference itself got TV money from the networks, which, in the BE case, was more-or-less equally distributed to all the teams to help cover these losses.

Not sure exactly how it all works since realignment

No, but the impoverished and obscure seem to like the place.  And remember kids,

What are the two best things to come out of Alabama? I-10 and I-20.

What is the Alabama Dept of Education Motto? Thank God for Mississippi.

What's twenty feet long and has five teeth? The funnel cake line at the Alabama State Fair.

What's the Alabama term for genius? Visitor!

and of course...What's the definition of safe sex in Alabama? Placing signs on the animals that kick.

That's it boys and girls, enjoy your trip, enjoy the bowl game and remember, the only reason they sell button-fly jeans in Alabama is 'cause the sheep can hear zippers a mile away. Y'all come back, ya heah. :FIREdevil:

This is a late entrant for Comment of the Year.

More than SEC school. And not bad for Bham on a weekday.

More worried about the **** game. Hoping for win numero 11.

The stadium sits over 71K.

With a combined approximation of 10K in ticket sales, it's going to look might empty.

Those are ticket sales through the Universities.  Many will buy on Stub Hub, etc.
