I like to take a "wait and see" approach to hires that look good on paper. I mean, imagine if we signed a guy to coach a team that had some nice FCS success, won a couple FBS conference titles, took 4 teams to bowls, and had previous experience coaching at FSU and Notre Dame. Would we all be just as excited?

Don't follow soccer.

Who's a compatible coach in football to this hire?

Did anyone else listen to the Strong halftime radio interview from the MBB game on Saturday?   It sounds like Harlan flew to Austin to meet with Strong even before Willie took the Oregon job.  Anyone else catch that?

So FGCU has less money and resources than USF.  However, during the last several years Buterhorn has put together teams that have been to the NCAA tournament about as often as our program.  Also, FGCU has beaten us three of our last four meetings.

Kiefer was considered a great coach by those that follow soccer closely.  It appears that Buterhorn is at least as good, or maybe better.  As usual, time will tell.  But I really don't think we could have found a better coach to replace Kiefer.  And Buterhorn is from Tampa, so we are bringing him home.  That might keep him around longer if all goes well.

A+ hire in my book.

I did not, but once Taggart's name was mentioned then Harlan should have been starting to look and look hard.

Donors, need more of them. This hire looks good, and it helps that we don't compete against UF, FSU, and Miami in men's soccer.
