I was thinking the same about the OCS. FAU (2001), and FIU (2002) are both newer programs than we are, have had less success, yet each has an OCS. FAU I believe is in the process of getting an IPF as well, mainly due to a $16 million donation  iirc. Was there ever a serious push during the program's heyday for an OCS?

Nope. Here is what you have to remember, almost every team in America has an OCS, it is part of playing football. FIU and FAU had more need, without Raymond James Stadium being 8 miles from campus. FAU played in the Dolphins stadium and Lockhardt (a soccer stadium 25 miles from campus ... which would have worked if it was closer). FIU didn't have a good option, other than beg for some open dates from the Canes and Dolphins (and Marlins) if they wanted to play somewhere other than campus.

Lockhart made me laugh. True story, I went to the NFL Kicker Competition there once in 1986. 1) That was actually a thing. 2) That stadium wasn't even a good high school football stadium in those days.

I grew up going to Ft. Lauderdale Strikers (and Ft. Lauderdale Suns) games there.

I flew some Rowdies players over there for one of the classic 'rivalry' games years ago and stayed with one of them at a friend of his apartment.  Still run into Mike Connell and Farrukh Quaraishi now and then.

I grew up in Fort Lauderdale as well (Lauderhill), and attended Fort Lauderdale Strikers games as well. There was a minor league baseball stadium nearby (Fort Lauderdale Yankees maybe?) We played FAU when we were top 10 in 2007 at Lockhart, and they gave us a scare.

I lived in Pensacola for 5 years. Not even close.

(This is based on zero scientific fact.)

Here's a 2005 to 2014 map: http://www.vaisala.com/en/products/thunderstormandlightningdetectionsystems/Pages/NLDN.aspx

On a good resolution, Mobile and Pensacola hit the "12 and up" in a few small areas.

I've lived in Pensacola most of my life.  As I said, Tampa is top, but Mobile and Pensacola are closer than you'd think.

Taravella. Though I lived in Tamarac, not Coral Springs.

What's this 8 miles from campus number?

It's at least 10 miles... and the traffic is terrible (not just on game days)... this is at least a 20 minutes drive (on a good day).

I don't mind playing at Ray Jay... as long as we are benefitting from renting a stadium (cheaper costs to be used elsewhere).
