If y'all want to change the format, I'm all for expanding it ..... but the way it is now, the Committee is charged with picking the 4 best teams in the country, not the 4 best conference champions, to playoff. The conf championship can obviously weigh in their decision but should not be a requirement in the current format.

I'm thinking to get rid of the committee and let the conf champs play.

Maybe a committee somewhere could pick wildcards, but if you win your conference, you should go to the playoffs. Every other sport works that way...

I get how it's done just saying it's stupid. their idea of who the best 4 teams are is subjective. only an opinion. one in which they will always default to the program that has more national following and the perception of being better.

it's like Plant High school not winning districts but still getting an invite to the state championships.

How dumb is it that if clemson wins then the Big 10 champ will be left out of the playoffs for a team in the Big 10 who didn't even win their division or in PSU's case actually beat.

Man some of all are too emotionally attached to CJL. He's gone. Get over it. His team got spanked last night. We have a better coach and team now.

The best thing that could happen is for there to be 8 conferences with 10 teams each and each conference champion plays in a 8 team tournament for the national championship but that won't happen as the p5 will never all it to happen

Thats more reasonable then some of the suggestions in this and other threads. The reality is, however, the magic # is 64 for the old money. The top 64 will get a seat at the table and everyone else will be watching them eat.

I'm not disagreeing with you there at all ... needs to be a micro version of the Big Dance. Just saying you can't start plugging in requirements that take away from the subjective, opinion based root of the current set up. Change the set up.

OK, all of this is too easy to refute. There are arguments in favor of the current system, but you haven't made them. Keep trying, though, this is fun! :D

This is not a monolithic professional sports league with professional athletes.

Neither are the 89 other sports that the NCAA has championships for, LOL

These are schools with 100+ years of traditions and regional rivalries.

Harvard v. Yale in FCS (and a 1,000 other examples in D1,2,3) says traditions, rivalries, and real playoffs are compatible

Declaring a NC just to please gamblers and fans is not the mission or purpose of universities across the nation.

Very few universities include a statement on nationally competitive athletics - when they do speak on athletics, it's usually about molding a "complete" individual - but EVERY university president is very proud of each and every championship their students earn.

CJL defense last night looked like ours.  Poor.

The cash?  What they gave him was one year's salary and the attorneys got a chunk of that.  USF owed him 5 times that.  He was foolish in taking it and should have insisted his attorneys go ahead and depose Woolard and Genshaft under oath.
