It's really not that strange when the D coordinator is nowhere to be seen on the sidelines. That's such crap.

I am tired of hearing this.

One of the top defensive coordinators in nation, John Chavis, calls plays from the booth. He has had a top 20 defense almost every year of his career since he was at LSU.

Being on the field or in the booth is not the root issue.

I tried defending woodie, but no more. He needs to get demoted and put Mathies or Jancek as Defensive coordinator.

I wouldn't bother with Mathies...we aren't going to fix things by putting another inexperienced guy in charge.   Jancek being more active might be a stopgap though.

I like Mathies energy. Jancek has the most experience.

We're not LSU. John Chavis has proven success with this. We took a nose dive in defense this year running the same exact defense.

I agree.  its just an easy thing to criticize but it has worked fine for plenty of teams. its specific to the personalities you have on staff.

This defense is going to be CWT'S Achilles heel later this year. If we are fortunate to just keep scoring more often than our opponents can, and we scrape by on our way to face Houston, I do not believe we will be able to score on them as easily as they will have their way with our defense.

Promoting CRW was loyal and honorable, but I have to wonder if he has the right mentorship around him to help him learn and succeed. CWT is clearly an offensive mind, and he will be more attuned to what the offense is doing than mentoring a new D Coordinator. The offense is laudable finally, though I would argue the overall gameplan against FSU was pretty lacking. Defense wins championships, and this won't be our year without a dramatic change (and fast).

Number 18 backed off before the snap giving HUGE space for the receiver to get the first down, then he misses the tackle. This is the bad defense coaching playing 20 yards off the ball at the snap on 3rd and 5ish. He caused a fumble but still just bad defense in my opinion.

Have you seen we played 4-3-4 schema few times?  Hope we improve our defense much better game by game.
