He was probably planning on retiring after the season, but since they are effectively out of any conference contention, he figured it would be a good time now.  It does give USC a leg up on getting a new coach.

I would like to think that this puts us behind if we have a head coaching vacancy at the end of the year; however, I doubt we will be pulling from the same candidate list as SC.  Thus, it probably does not affect us one bit.

Lots of jobs open now.  Not surprised about Spurrier and I would love to see him some on TV commenting on games live....or coaching here.  Hey we have a golf course on campus HBC!

One of the first things that he said in his presser is that he is not retiring, but resigning.  He also said that if he would coach again, it probably wouldn't be as a head coach.

Having him become our QB coach would solve myriad issues, no?  :D

I think USC is going to hire Taggart because of the Syracuse win.

Hope Steve's health is OK.  Spurrier has been such a fixture in football for over 50 years...hard to imagine him just retiring and just golfing and mowing his lawn.  I used to see him often when I used to gas up his Pontiac years ago at a gas station I worked at as a kid.  He has a lot of ties throughout state of Florida for sure and he spent lots of time in Tampa when playing for the Bucs and head coaching the old Tampa Bay Bandits....Bandit Ball was a lot of fun especially with Spurrier coaching.  Wouldn't be surprised one bit he takes a head coaching job at another college after splitting from S. Carolina.

Or maybe the Eagles will hire CWT when Chip Kelly takes the USC job, but still, only because of the CUSE win.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."
