Pierre-Paul is away from the Giants while his right hand heals from a July 4 fireworks accident that cost him his index finger and did various other damage to the hand, but Selvie is among those who've been in touch with him. "He's doing well, just trying to get healthy, so we're just waiting on him to get healthy and come back and join the team," Selvie said before Wednesday's practice. "He has to feel like he's healthy again, and when he's ready to come back, he'll be back." Pierre-Paul has not allowed the Giants' medical and training staff to examine him since the accident, and there has been some frustration on the team's end about the resulting uncertainty. Team owner John Mara said last week, "I don't know how many fingers he has" when discussing potential timetables for Pierre-Paul's return. But at the time of his July 8 surgeries that amputated the finger and repaired fractures in the right thumb, the expected recovery time was six weeks. It has been only four. So it seems likely, if he's staying away until he's healthy, that Pierre-Paul won't be interested in talking to the Giants about coming to camp for at least another two weeks. Until then, they'll just have to find a way to be patient.

His NFL career has put him as a bit of a vagabond but he is still a solid pass rusher. Hope he can keep it going!

If he can't play he goes on the PUP list and since he's not under signed contract, doesn't get payed according to Pro Football Talk.

I seriously doubt blowing your finger off with fireworks would be considered a "football related injury", which is a requirement to be placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list. There is a list for Non Football Injuries (NFI) that people like Plaxico who shot his own leg at the strip bar get placed on. JPP probably goes on this unpaid list Edited August 6, 2015 by Sellular1

I saw the same photo the day after the incident and questioned the validity of it due to how small the hand was in general. JPP has some big dickskinners. Someone else on ESPN pointed out that photo was taken in 2012 or 2013 if I recall correctly.
