Appi State pays better than most Sun Belt schools, I think.  But it does seem like a step down.

Yup. Either he really didn't get along, or he left the dumpster before the slow burn turned to a raging inferno. I love that we keep promoting young, inexperienced staff members. It is a great idea to take a chance on someone with potential when there are so many solid, established mentors surrounding him to oversee and step in when needed for learning opportunities. Keeps them from learning bad habits or failing harshly if much of the rest of the staff is also young and inexperienced and have yet to have excellent, time-tested habits ingrained in their skill sets...
