  1. While I totally understand the frustration and complaints about the overall trajectory of our athletics programs over the years, I don't see how beaching and moaning about it incessantly (particularly on a fan message board) will accomplish anything of substance. The occasional off-the-rails rant to release some steam is sometimes helpful and cathartic. But if you want to constantly complain I think it should be directed squarely to the administration responsible for oversight of those programs and, if possible, with suggestions, efforts and/or $$$ to help improve the situation.
  2. I used to love watching both women's and men's beach volleyball back in the day, particularly on Clearwater Beach. Karch Kiraly, Sinjin Smith, Tim Hovland, Mike Dodd and other beasts of the beach made the '80s remarkable. I also am so old that dirt taunts me with "OK Boomer!" My days of ogling women players has long passed. However, I was fortunate enough and robbed the cradle to marry a former D-1 college volleyball player. Now I get my kicks watching my teenage daughter on the indoor volleyball courts all around the Carolinas and bordering states.
  3. Cool to see Cobb walk-on from the backyard of my former Tampa home and whose dad was a player from my current (part-time) Florida hometown of Gulf Breeze (go Dolphins!) Wish all the recruits the very best and hope heart, desire and talent are all strong in all of them.
  4. Why in strip clubs alone Tampa should be able to round up some pretty strong NIL sponsors. Also, why not get Publix to sponsor the backup players and call them the "Publix Subs."
  5. Unless we are going to reduce or eliminate some men's sports, fielding a competitive gymnastics team would probably be cost prohibitive for USF. https://collegegymnews.com/2021/12/14/differences-in-budgets-mean-differences-in-reality-in-ncaa-gymnastics/ By comparison women's beach volleyball should be much less expensive and the number of colleges adding beach volleyball is growing pretty rapidly. I understand there are only six scholarships per team and the investment in facilities, equipment, etc., at least initially, is relatively low. Also, when you are located in Florida you can keep travel costs low. There are already a number of colleges in the state with beach volleyball programs vs. only one gymnastics program of which I am aware (UF) and being in Florida you can easily attract teams from other areas to come play in your back yard. Plus, there should already be local interest and a talent pool in beach volleyball. It seems to me adding beach volleyball is a good move and pretty much a no brainer.
  6. I am on 50+ years of a pretty steady diet of losing as a Bulls fan. I now have come to expect it like the sunrise. But, at my age, there is always the possibility that either could end at any time, so I just keep enjoying the ride.
  7. Well, it was fun while it lasted. Maybe Bucs can swing a deal with the FCF Beasts to bring Quinton Flowers home.
  8. Wishing you and all the longsuffering Bulls fans happy holidays and a better year in 2022.
  9. After battling for nearly a half century with the disease of Bulls athletics addiction I finally kicked the habit by moving several states away and developing healthier (at least mentally) habits.
  10. Would be excited if played in the manner of our Native American brethren.
  11. As a longtime fan and donor, I won't get too worked up about this. I'll just wait and see if it occurs before I shuffle off this mortal coil and they install my official donor's headstone.
  12. This is a really good question. I have always been amazed and frustrated watching our guys 'bump" rather than tackle the other teams' offensive players and not using their arms at all. Maybe we can hire the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. At least he had tenacity. "None shall pass (or run, hopefully)."
  13. People do realize that we have basically sucked forever, right? Or at least the last 50 years that I have been a fan. I don't know if the Lord Baby Jesus could fix us.
  14. Saturday felt like such a great day for those of us left standing in the dust.
  15. If nothing else this is a reason why this hire as DC would never happen.
  16. Not sure what brought us to this lowly state, but we may have to rely upon blind begging.
  17. Practice? Who needs practice? Anyway, they would certainly need outdoor practice fields in addition to the new IPF.
  18. Unfortunately, except for very rare occasions, I used to have a hard time convincing anyone to come with me to use by 8 midfield football tickets or my midcourt basketball tickets even when there was convenient parking, free food and beer included. Some tickets are a tough sell. Others are a tough giveaway.
  19. That would be interesting negotiating the contract: "Is Jim Leavitt going to have to choke a beeach."
  20. That would be a great coaching duo. Note Dame down by four touchdowns in the 4th quarter to Pitt: Lou: "Son, a bumble bee doesn't know it can't fly." Skp: "Right Dad. Send on the field goal unit! I've got golf in an hour."
  21. I personally don't like extending coaches or politicians who have not delivered. I guess the debate will always be what constitutes success in light of the circumstances.
  22. Not likely but we'll see. I any event, happy holidays to you and your lovely wife.
  23. In answer to the original question: Yes, at the signing of each donor check. Then I just rack it up to being in the category of death, taxes and bad USF athletic performances.
  24. I don't know. I kind of still like Rocky, even though the CJL version Rocky was so much better. But that is Judy and Doug's fault. download (3).ics
