Saw an article posted somewhere (can't recall where) saying Davis has a decent chance to stick.  Would be great to see a WR see some NFL time.  CMitch was likely better (Bogan, too), but for whatever reason, no dice.

I don't recall their physical statures exactly, but I'm pretty sure that Davis has the size they both lacked.  Small receivers can make it as a slot receiver, but fewer of those spots exist.  Freakshow has the physical tools, if he can keep his head on straight and work hard.

Mitchell was 6'4", and if he played his senior year, he'd hold most of our receiving records.  He got drafted by Cleveland, and I thought he had a shot, since they weren't exactly stocked at WR.

Davis was inconsistent, and often pulled up/short if contact was near.  I wonder if his lack of attack game hurts him at this level.  I think being challenged at this level, and being trained by the best coaches in the world, he may be able to develop his weak areas and improve his game.

I thought Bogan was one of the best hands/fighters.  His TD v Lville in the back of the end zone is a classic (40-50 yd BJ bomb).  Also, his sideline grab at our UM win kept us in the game.

I don't recall Mitchell being that tall.  Maybe because we used to have several on the field at once throwing a lot of underneath stuff.  Still, he had his shot at the NFL, just like Dre.

6'3" according to combine.

Frankly, the measurables aren't close. As others have said, if CM didn't bolt when CJL was swept away, Davis doesn't sniff any records.

I'm not trying to put down Davis. He, and later Mack, were the among the only skill players deserving of a D1 scholarship not recruited by CJL.

Based on these, Mitchell worked harder but Davis has better raw skills for receiving.

Ultimately it doesn't matter, because both were UDFAs though it seems that Davis probably has a somewhat better chance to stick than Mitchell was given.

What are you talking about? CMitch was drafted by the Browns and stayed with them 2.5 years. Davis was a UDFA and will have to work even harder to stick that long.

Don't confuse me with facts!

But that really calls into question the beginning of this entire side discussion, so we have to start over.

I concur! Dontavia Bogan was really a gritty WR. He played with heart, and he wasn't afraid of midfield contact.

Mitchell was God gifted with the best size/ability.

Davis was cursed with the worst QBs a WR can have.

Bogan was and still is my favorite for his ball attack skills. A shame he didn't get a shot.

He got a "shot".  I remember seeing a picture of him in a 49er uniform (I think).  Not sure about much more.

True. Spent a year on IR and got cut in March of the following offseason.

Then this likely sealed his fate. http://archive.azcentral.com/news/articles/2012/04/03/20120403scottsdale-nfl-player-Bogan-arrested-bar.html

Exactly. Bogan had his shot. Leavitt's 49ers signed him as a UDFA. He was too busy being a playboy and got arrested.

Bogan argued with the guard and told him he had a table inside and spent thousands of dollars at the bar, according to the police report.

What a dumbass.

Looks like he never got another whiff, and isn't pursuing.  Makes sense, since it gets harder each year you don't make it. Tough breaks & bad decisions sealed the deal.

He attended an NFL regional combine in 2014. That was the latest I could find on him.

"There is no inherent fear among this group of players. The fear of failing drove the program from day one - the fear of failing the coaches, the fan base, the university, each teammate, themselves. Now, as we head into the biggest game in our history at home on a national stage against the highest ranked team to step on OUR field, the players are taking an introspective look at themselves. Unfortunately, I don't know if they get it. They lack the fear."

    Terry Lucas, 09/26/22
