No atmosphere there unless Florida State is visiting. And they are a nationally-known entity! The Orange Bowl may not have been "on-campus" but it was so close to Coral Gables it might as well have been. It may have been a dump, but at that point it was their own. UCF's on-campus stadium may look cheap, but you feel close to the action and can build some sort of tradition. UCF fans also faced a similar drive that Hurricanes fans and Bulls fans face if they lived near campus and wanted to see their teams play. The distance to the Citrus Bowl, like it or not, was a casual fan killer. Anyone who thinks staying at the Ray Jay over getting an on-campus stadium is just insane for the reasons above and more, even if it's built similar to UCF's. Houston's stadium cost $128 million. As for UCF's cheap stadium? The Citrus Bowl folks wanted the school to sign a terrible deal and they had to make a decision. It's all worked out for the better and if the school can make some money down the line, it's compatible for upgrades.

Go to one of the Minor league baseball games in Florida, when the team is in a slump, and compare it to Spring preseason games at the same venue in March when the pro team plays, night and day in atmosphere and we are talking small fields with 8-10k capacities. USF needs to develop a winning football program. Having an OCS has nothing to do with that goal. Once that is established then the finances need to looked at. And now the athletic department has a good idea how the income from attendance and merchandising is affected during losing years. That's important because it will happen again, no team goes forever without them. There are also outside factors impacting football, plaer compensation and the concussion issue and the possible breaking away of the P5 conferences, all which will need to be taken into consideration. Go Bulls!

I'm not trying to flame, but facts are facts. If USF builds something on campus, it'll be better than UCF's facilities. Our endowment is dramatically larger than UCF's. We're in another league as far as research expenditures, endowment size, and graduate academics. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that can be apportioned to athletics at all. ^ NO! ucfknightmb Posted November 27, 2014 Group: Member Topic Count: 4 Content Count: 24 Reputation: 1 Days Won: 0 Joined: 09/14/2006 Share Posted November 27, 2014 If we stayed at the Citrus Bowl a half-hour away and never built an on-campus stadium, I have a hard time believing we would've ever made the amount of progress we did. While our recruiting is never stellar, it probably would be worse than what it is now, even with a renovated Citrus Bowl. USF needs a building with its own identity and something that can bring everyone back to campus, rather than to a Glazer property. That revenue increase - recruiting budget much? UCF's and FAU's are not that much different than Doak, except for the facade. As far as a stadium goes, "the Swamp" sucks. Now, the atmosphere is completely different. When USF gets an OCS, it will be nicer than UCF's or FAU's
