no position is safe but someone has to actually take it from you.

Bench had nothing to do with us almost beating Maryland. His QB rating was actually lower than White's vs NC State.

I agree with SANJAY. Just stop throwing the ball period. I honestly couldn't care less if he throws Bench out there but he is not suited for running this offense.

Just give Bench the same opportunities as White has gotten.  It's all I ask.  If it shakes out the same way, fine, but let's at least rule it out.  The mobility dimension has to come into play, also, as this O-line can't protect worth a ****.  We need the mobility way more than we need a statue in the pocket.

Bench was ahead of White on the depth chart last year. White sits his entire career here if Bench takes over the job when he got his chance. He has had several opportunities and i'm sure the coaches see them everyday in practice. he is no more the answer than White is.

Last year is completely irrelevant. The point is, #dosomething. If no position is safe, he needs to act like it, especially at the top position.

last year is not irrelevant.

if Bench plays lights out against Maryland than White never sees the field again.

So White has played lights off in both games this year and his jobs isn't in jeopardy. I believe that's the problem 94.

He''s not saying that.  What I believe he's saying is that in CWT's mind Bench hasn't done enough to have him take over.

Taggart feels White is best for the job. White has put far more on tape than Bench. Taggart sees them practice everyday.

Like I said Bench has had a chance to take over the job several times. Even with as bad as White has played, he hasn't been able to.

I think this is exactly what Bull94 is making the case for, and it's a good case, but then we have an issue with CWT who has said "no position is safe."  It's a contradiction, no matter how you slice it.

It could very well be that CWT doesn't want to do what Sanjay mentioned ... pulling the slot machine lever, spinning the prize wheel, turning the roulette wheel, (insert your low-odds casino game here), etc.

Not asking for a takeover, just a series or two after a lackluster performance by the starter in the first half of a game.

I don't believe his position is safe. If Bench plays  well enough against Maryland to take over the job than Tags gives it to him.

Please don't say something about first team reps, etc etc. Plenty of backup QBs have come in and taken jobs from inferior starters without having 1st team reps in practice.

Last year Bench got the start and reps against the #102 passing defense in the country. He went 13-27 (48%) for 189 yds 1 TD - 1 int. His lone TD came with .02 on the clock in a game we lost 49-21. That was a home game. He plays well and we never ever hear from White. In fact he got hurt and then still was given a chance before White against uofL where he went 4 -12 for 68 yards and 1 int

White came out against a similar defense (#111) in his first start on the road and went 26-41 (63%) for 311 yds 2 TDs 1 int.

Thank you Tags, for telling us the obvious.

Next he will say that QB play needs to improve and the defense needs to tackle better.

He said the OL is not doing it's part and no position there is safe ... what the hell more do you want?

He told us last year that no position is ever safe, that you need to earn it every week - in practice and during games.

He just said today that the OLine positions are no longer safe.  In other words, he's been letting them coast.  I've never seen a more inconsistent coach.  He never follows through on what he says.

What I the hell want is for him to play the guys that are making plays, not just play his favorites.  It is blindingly obvious that has not been the case on offense.

So who on the OL, in your opinion, is making plays but not playing because of the laughable reason that he's playing his "favorites" instead? ... and also explain how exactly they can be making plays if they're not playing.

That would be exactly my point, wouldn't it?

No, it wouldn't. "What I the hell want is for him to play the guys that are making plays." That makes no sense .... You didn't answer my question about who he should be playing instead of his "favorites"?

Come on, Trip.  I didn't think I had to spell this out for you.  You are a smart guy, you know exactly what I'm saying.

Obviously I am not at practice.  But he is saying that if these players don't perform, they will be replaced by others.  I'm wondering why it takes three games to determine there are issues, when the issues have been obvious since the first quarter of the first game.  Someone doesn't perform, send out the next guy.  You do this until you find a player that performs.

To this point in the season that hasn't happened.  The same guys keep going out there.

And why is it apparently only the OLine that is under fire?  There are clearly other players that haven't performed.  Why aren't their starting jobs similarly under threat?

Again, when he first got here he said that positions had to be earned.  Every day was a tryout for the next.  By his comments, this has obviously not been the case.  So he was just talking the talk.  Let's see if he can walk the walk.

It makes me laugh that because some fans believe the guy on the bench is better than the guy playing, that the coach must be sticking with his favorites.

I've spent more than enough time around teams and coaches to know that most coaches play favorites.  As do most managers or team leaders.  It's human nature.  It takes conscious effort to avoid this trap.

Last I checked the scoreboard doesn't have a spot for current bank balance on it.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
