He was a kid with a ton of potential but lacked work ethic and common sense,  5 star talent but 1 star brain.

Yup...he usually carried a lot of belly fat, which isn't very helpful.  Seemed to take off a lot of plays/games.  Could've been something special.

He took over that bowl game in the second half

Against a 5th place (5-3) MAC team!

Made me so proud

That video is so depressing. Ford could have been the best RB in USF history if he would have had better work ethic and kept out of trouble. Reminds me so much of Legarrette Blount.

So true, we have had a number of those types of players but he would be at the top.

Ford underachieved for a lot of reasons. I put a lot of his under development and lack of conditioning on his position coach. He was a powerful guy that never really learned to run behind his pads and effectively use his power.

Just my opinion, but Ford was never in shape enough to carry the load as a feature back every game for a full season.

I come back to the position coach. It was the same guy that coached Andre Hall. For all the great things we saw from Hall it could have been so much more if he wouldn't run out of gas when he broke away only to be caught from behind.

Biggest problem for Ford was he was a power back in a read option, spread offense. He would have been great in Taggart's offense.

The biggest problem for Mike Ford was Mike Ford, not coaching, not the offense, he would have bombed out under Taggart.

Gotta agree with Ned on this one, 100%.

If Leavitt would have given Ford the ball more he would still have a job.

nah.  Seems Ford has underchieved on & off the field for quite some time.  Giving a guy more work who doesn't want to earn it isn't the right formula.  Some guys just can't be taught the value of hard work & the pay off...or just aren't hungry or patient enough to chase higher goals.  That's why Ford is where he is today...not because of Leavitt or anyone else.

We've talked about getting back to being the toughest, most violent people out there. Let's be the best version of ourselves and really get back to the culture of how we (USF) used to step across the line and play anybody. Let's hold on to the culture of when they were tough … and they (opponents) knew it was going to be long damn day for themselves.
