By TOM ZEBOLD

USF Senior Writer

TAMPA, APRIL 24, 2014 –

Orlando Antigua said becoming an assistant men’s basketball coach at USF was a “dream come true†opportunity he couldn’t pass up.

...

Oliver [Antigua] has been hard at work since joining USF earlier in April and said the Bulls will build a program people can be proud of while doing things the right way.

“I don’t know what the wins and losses are going to be, but we’re going to play hard. We’re going to be a team that defends at a school we’re going to be proud of,†he said. “We’re going to try to build this thing the right way. We’re not going to cut corners; we’re not going to compromise our principles. These are our players now, our family and we’ve told them that. We’re going to try to make them the best players they can be.â€

Love when people say its easy to recruit at Kentucky or some other big program.  Its also easy to sell the top companies medical devices, and Mercedes Benz to people who can afford them. The tough part is being good enough to be given that position.   Remember Orlando doesnt get that Kentucky job without being a GREAT recruiter.  He was at Pitt before there and they had every kid from NYC ( I know this being a St Johns fan too and watching these kids pass their home town school to go to Shitsburgh) They dont just hand a recruiting job out at Kentucky and say dont worry about your qualifications its Kentucky a monkey can recruit here.  They hire qualified and the best.  Its a friggin NBA factory farm system.

I for one am happy all these kids are leaving.  Lets destroy and rebuild.

Personally I wasnt impressed with Stans one year flash in the pan season.  Im more a judge of consistency.  Lets give COA and assistants some time.

Always bet on New York kids, always. Half the top coaches in the ncaa are from NY

Seeing out AD try to hire Masiello (sp?, and not happy w how that went down) and then Orlando is a breath of fresh air.  Someone actually has common sense.

So you're saying Kentucky and the other big programs are paying recruits the most to play there?

If not, this is a pretty dumb comparison.

Dont know where you got that from.  Hes saying anyone can recruit on kentucly, downplaying Orlandos success.  Im saying people in those positions to sell top companies products are given those jobs for a reason.  they have a proven track record.  Yes its easy to sell superior products ( or recruit at Kentucky) but they dont give the job to anyone.

Orlando wouldnt get the asst job at KENTUCKY if he werent qualified.  Calipari i s a no nonsesne guy.  #1 class recruiters or go coach somewhere else

This thread is looking worse and worse by the hour with all the talent steady transferring and getting out of their LOI from others schools. Just amazing the amount of talent pooping up everyday. USF simply hasn't lost that much by comparison.
