The point is don't burn the redshirt now. If they thought he was the best option he would be playing, otherwise run with one of the other three quarterbacks you have now. If you don't like how they play then coach them up or modify the gameplan.

If the coaching staff is smart they will recruit a QB hard this year and not put all their eggs in one basket with White next year.

if they were smart they would be working in the guy they think will be the starter next year regardless if he is a true freshman or not. we need a QB with actual game experience for next year. who cares if we have white for 2018. that's all a red shirt allows you to do anyway. extend the guys career by 1 year and that's if he doesn't get hurt like grothe did.
We need a QB this year too.

Manziel didn't have any game experience last year when he started his first game against Florida, and he won the heisman. But because we don't have any QBs now, we need to put the most talented guy in.

Now White is as good as Manziel? You guys are hilarious.

The player that is number four on the depth chart is our best option at QB, but CWT decides not to put him on the field. I'm sure that's it.

I'm not saying he is as good as Manziel. I'm sayin it's possible for a QB to be successful after a redshirt year.

I said we need to put the most talented guy in, and if that is white, then play white. But just because he redshirts a year doesn't mean he can't be successful as a starter the following year.

Just let Bench play next week....

Yeah. Ruin him early, throw him in the fire. Don't let him get comfortable in the system. Bet it will help with recruiting too. Come to USF, learn a dozen plays, start at QB.

I think Taggart would know if he would "ruin" him or not by starting him ... and kids would love to be given the starting job right out of high school so you're recruiting slam is off base. I'd say give him the start if CWT is comfortable with that and see how he does. It would be a start for each of them before conference play ...

way off base. true competitors want to start day one.

Why do think White isn't starting now then?

because he isn't as good an option as eveld or floyd unfortunately??

maybe he isn't any good. I don't know.

again I'm not advocating he START just if they think he is good enough to start next year that they burn the red shirt and get him some much needed expereince against some of the lesser teams we play. bring him in for 4 or 5 series against bad defenses. bring him along slowly. he isn't learning **** playing 4th string QB.

You don't burn a redshirt year unless he is your guy and you plan on him having a play a MAJOR role on your team. And to be quite honest, if he isn't any better than the three guys we have already then he shouldn't sniff the field.

He isn't going to play, get over it. Move on.

Tebow had 33 pass attempts his true freshman year. Urban Meyer knew Leak was a senior and he wanted Tebow to have game experience before throwing him to the wolves. smart coaches prepare for the future. they get kids reps at every position so they are ready when the seniors move on.

I hope he has a MAJOR role on our team next year so I believe the experience is more valuable than saving him for 2018.

Guys, that is why the redshirt people! To give them a chance to adapt to the college game, it's speed, learn, and adapt to college life. So when they do play as a redshirt freshman their head isn't spinning when they step on the field.

no they don't. they red shirt to build depth at a position. notice every position of need that true freshman play. including QB for most programs. CAL is starting a true freshman in a much more difficult system. Penn State is starting a true freshman.

red shirts are intended for injuries. grothe only played 3 years and a couple of games because we burned his red shirt  for a non injury reason. he could have used that red shirt and played a full 4 years.

That depends on what they see on the field, if they are smart. Taggart seems to think Bench isn't ready yet and hasn't tossed him in yet for any length of time.

Can everyone please stop comparing White to Tebow, Manziel, Manning, Jesus, and the guy that invented the internet porn! If he is good enough to play he would be playing. I don't want to see him on the field this year if he can't beat out the two other bozo's and the guy that apparently threw the greatest incomplete pass in USF history.

:roflmao: That's the first time I've laughed since the Bucs lost with 2 seconds to go.

Anyone stop to think that maybe they want to groom White for the future? He's adapting to the speed of college football and he's also learning the playbook. Give the kid a year to do both so when he steps on the field, he's well prepared.

Your 3 options this year are Bench, Eveld, and Floyd.

Floyd is done, so it's really only Eveld and Bench.

If Bench knew or gets to know the playbook as well as Eveld, he will play and probably be starting by conference play.

They planned on using Bench in situational packages yesterday, I'm guessing we will see more of that in the near future.

And who just compared Mike White to Hackenburg?? LOL GTFO with that analogy. If we had #1 rated QB out of HS, he'd be starting too.

I don't think Floyd is done ... He didn't look that much worse than Eveld and is more mobile ... but would still like to Bench get a start.

I think Floyd looked a lot worse than Eveld.

sorry but you don't adapt to the speed of college football by sitting on the bench. that's exactly my point. game experience is the only way to adapt to speed of college football.

you don't have to be #1 qb in the country to start as a true freshman.if they think white can beat out floyd or bench next year then get him reps now. BTW I have been saying repeatedly that I don't think he should start. only that if they think he could be the starter next year then they should be getting him reps this year so that he can get used to the speed of college football. we are already taking our lumps this year might as well kill 2 birds with one stone. why take our lumps this year with defense and o-line etc and then again next year when we have to break in a QB.
