Yeah people conveniently forget Julmiste's injury. CJL was loyal to a fault and if PJ hadn't gotten hurt Grothe might have been redshirted after all. Tough to say in hindsight...but it wasn't the Jim making a tough call to put in a true freshman like Willie has now.

Grothe wasn't a true freshman, he'd been in the system a year and a half.

And I think it's safe to say the offensive system at the time was closer to sandlot ball than the more complex pro-like system CWT is installing.

Why did Skippy and now CWT try to install a pro-like system?  Pro systems are for teams that can recruit top level personnell (i.e. Bama, USC, ND, etc.).  We excelled under JL spread offense because it utilized the speed that we have access to in our state (and obviously we had a QB that could run it).   Maybe this is a chicken v. egg question, but find even a lower level spread offense QB that can run the offense for the time being and then recruit based on the system.

Eveld is a good qb and can see over the line. Bench is like 5'8" and can't see ****!

WTF? Are you serious? Steven is 6'3" or 6'4". I have stood next to him.

Disregarding the Bench height argument - Eveld is like 6'5", right?  How many passes did he get batted down today?

I think that is negated when the 6'4" DL is 1 foot in front of you. Baahahaha.

Yeah. Ruin him early, throw him in the fire. Don't let him get comfortable in the system. Bet it will help with recruiting too. Come to USF, learn a dozen plays, start at QB.

Grothe was red shirted (for no injury reason) that's why he couldn't take his red shirt when he actually did get injured his senior year.

Grothe was coming in for the second half. Leavitt hadn't decided on a starter yet and was going to see how they each played early. Grothe came in early when Pat got hurt ...
