No professors are getting rich off of their books in class. And since saying I know because I've worked at USF won't be enough, here's a link to someone else saying it.http://oudaily.com/news/2009/feb/13/professors-get-use-self-authored-textbooks/ And here's a book written by a USF professor that I did some of the research for when I was his grad student. I assure you, he's making VERY little from "forcing" his students to buy it.http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008BU7AOU Edited June 21, 2013 by JTrue

What matters is that the books are expensive and if the state were to regulate what PUBLIC universities had to use, then the students would save money. There is no reason that a used book should cost $125.00. Maybe I'm naive, but the accounting laws are the same no matter where you go to school, so a single book could be used for all 4000 level of whatever accounting course you are taking. I've had it both ways, and I prefer to choose my own because, frankly, there are some AWFUL texts out there. Not sure why I bother, really, for undergrads. They never read the dammed things before class. But I always try to get the cheapest/ most reasonable deal for the kids. I DO remember the expense, and I had to pay my own way thru school. Gismo, you wouldn't happen to be referring to a certain 2012 Carnegie Foundation U.S. Professor of the Year, would you?

Would have liked to have had him as a prof, listening to his speech, I can deff see the passion.
