USF Men's Basketball Adds Corey Allen Jr., to Stacked 2013-14 Class

Bulls Add Corey Allen Jr. to Stacked 2013-14 Class

The JUCO transfer averaged 21.1 ppg and 4.2 apg while shooting 62 percent from the field in 2012-13.

TAMPA – University of South Florida Men’s Basketball head coach Stan Heath made his nationally-ranked 2013-14 recruiting class even better this week as he has announced the signing of 6-0 guard Corey Allen Jr. (St. Louis, Missouri). Allen Jr., will join an already stellar class of six that is ranked 12th nationally by HoopScoop.com and 21st by ESPN RecruitingNation.

“We’re adding a very good player in Corey Allen Jr., especially late in the signing period,” Heath said. “He is a solid combo guard who can make a lot of plays - both scoring the ball and being able to find guys with his passing ability. He’s very quick, so he’ll give us an extra dynamic of speed on the court and an added dimension of being able to play with two ball-handling guards at the same time, giving us depth in the backcourt. He comes to USF from a winning program and as a player who had an outstanding JUCO and high school career.”

Allen Jr., will join the Bulls after spending two years at Mt. San Antonio College (Calif.) where he led the Mounties to the 2012-13 California JUCO State Championship – the first in the school’s history - and was named the Southern California JUCO Player of the Year. As the No. 63 overall JUCO player in the 2013-14 class, Allen Jr., averaged a team-high 21.1 points, 4.2 assists and shot 61.8 percent from the field as a sophomore for Mt. SAC. Allen Jr., played his high school career at Ritenour HS in St. Louis, Mo.

He will join an already stacked 2013 class for the Bulls featuring two Top 100 ESPN recruits in John Egbunu and Chris Perry and also includes highly touted signees Dre Clayton, Josh Heath, Bo Zeigler and Drew Davis. The Bulls are one of two schools nationally to have a top 25 power forward and a top 25 center for the class of 2013.

“It’s a very strong class and we assessed the areas that were most important, the inside presence for rebounding and scoring by adding Chris (Perry) and John (Egbunu),” added Heath. “Now that we’ve added Corey to the backcourt to go along with Josh Heath, Bo Zeigler and Drew Davis, we’ve got a very solid class that we believe should make an impact immediately.”

Way to get em Heath! The future is bright, with the Sun Dome renovations, a sweet recruiting class, and a more manageable schedule.

We've got 15 scholarship players, counting Noriega and Rudd, for next year, and can only have 13 .... Something's got to give.

Does the 15 include Heath's son?

I bet he pays for his son to allow for him to keep the extra spot open.
