While USF is busy focusing on facilities and satellite campuses, FGCU is focused on winning. They will get more press for their win tonight than USF got all of last year. Better hope they don't start taking recruits from USF.

What a ridiculous post. Yes we don't care about winning and we aren't trying to win either. We won two tourney games just last yr. FGCU isn't exactly a power team on the rise. I wonder if some of you are fans of our team or just looking for any reason to complain about our athletic program.

FGCU beats us in every sport that I remember them playing us - soccer, baseball and basketball - within the last year or two.  They are running good programs down there. Saw their basketball team in person this year. Ran out to a big lead against Lipscomb and then blew it and lost in OT.  Tremendous athletes on that squad.  Let's just hope they don't start playing football.

I live in Ft. Myers and there has been some rumblings about starting football. Problem is that most of the local fans are fans of Midwest teams (Michigan O State) or existing Florida teams. They may do it someday but not yet.

Yeah, it's all that focus on satellite schools and facilities that is costing our sports program. :iamwithstupid:

It's more than rumblings:

But it's not happening any time soon... They don't have any funds to start a program:

I tend to be pessimistic myself. But, claiming FGCU is better than USF is ridiculous. Except for the color green and relative location, no comparison is needed.

What does our satellite campuses have to do with our athletic program. I know Doug has been taking some heat as of late, but losing USF Poly sure as hell isn't his fault.  The closest thing that comes to him dealing with the other campuses is the Sailing team running out of St Pete.

Does this give FGCU some press? Sure. And they earned it. Good for them.

Can FGCU beat us in sports? Yep. Does it mean they're athletic department and university has surpassed ours? Let me answer it this way.... Has USF beat Florida in some games? Yep. Does that mean USF has surpassed UF? HELL NO.

But this should be a wake-up call to our department that there's competition in the neighborhood.
