They don't have to pay???  The Big East needed smazza. He wouldn't have gotten some of that Irish gold.

Reading the article it seems to make sense.  They were going to be entitled to some money from Pitt, Cuse, etc. leaving and the C7 split.  And they aren't taking football from the BE.  Calling it a wash.  Fine with it.

OK, let's run a couple numbers here.

 

ND was no more in the BE than any of the C7, who took $10 million of the pool when they left.

 

$10 m / 7 = $1,428,571

 

Therefore the BE owes ND about $1.4 m

 

Leaving early costs $2.5 million

 

Therefore ND owes the BE $1.1 m to leave

 

Where the F did $0.00 come from?!?!?! :wtf:

Technically ND wasn't in the C7.  So, ND could have argued for a cut of selling the BE name as they are still in the conference.  So, more than anything cutting them loose alleviates a lot of head aches and potential legal fees if we made them stay.
