our defense wasn't so much great as their qb was inacurrate. we gave up huge amounts of yards that game. nothing has changed really.

Exactly. Saying we played great defense is revisionist history. It was the beginning of the defense we've come to know and hate. ND just happened to turn the ball over quite a bit and we were able to capitalize on offense enough to stay ahead.

Was thinking about this myself .. was the last time I really felt pride and hope in this program. Seems ancient history ago.

Two completed seasons later they are the best in the nation and we are among the worst.... sad times.

Clearly Brian Kelly didn't need to wait to get his own players in.

Clearly you don't understand the difference in the talent level of the players going to either program. ND always recruits more highly rated players than us; they were when Weis was there too.

Also ... Brian Kelly is head and shoulders above Holtz as far as coaching ability. That's why he's at ND, because they are paying him top dollar and he appears to be worth every penny. Our head coach is getting paid FAR more than what he is worth.

Well, according to the Trib, the screw has turned.

All them young fellers playing, that's the future of USF football.

Twenty-odd seniors exit the building next Saturday, so next year

should be our first ride on the Holtz New Era Express. I'm just

curious as to where it goes.... cause just being competitive...

well, that's fine if this were T-ball.

Waiting for "Holt's players" is the dumbest argument in this case.

If the program he took over was in similar shape as to what he has created in these last 3 years, yes, then I would say it is a valid argument.

Anyone says we need to wait for his players to win needs to go back and take a look at the record before, and for that matter, the first year he was here. No, we didn't win the conference, but we were going to bowl games which means we had a winning record. Waiting for his players would mean building and taking the next step toward a conference championship.

Holtz was not hired to rip the program apart and wait five years until "his" recruits were seniors before we got back to another bowl game.

That's ridiculous.

Or, maybe, the program was already on the way down. We may know in a couple of years.

Well, it ain't like we were burning it up in years past, either. We always thought we were better than

our record showed (which is odd, if you think about it), but we managed to lounge around the middle

of the pack. As for comparing us to ND...opposite ends of the spectrum. Don't read too much into

that ND win. I'm a firm believer in the ability of blind hogs - and on that day, the clock was our best

buddy.

We played great defense. Not sure what Holtz has been smoking since that game, but it should be banned.

We got some nice 3 hour rain delays too so we could change up our defense. Plus some unbelievable lucky defensive TDs
